Short-Term Running Goals:

-Qualify for the 2024 Olympic marathon trials

Long-Term Running Goals:

-Run a few fast marathons. Grandma's, St. George, and Boston are on my target list. An Olympic Trials qualifier would be amazing.

-Break stroller records?

-Stay fit for a very long time. I believe what goes into making a competitive runner at age 60 is much different than age 20, just like what goes into making a good marathoner differs from a good sprinter. I hope that by taking care of my body, I can be very fast for my age as I get older.

Personal:

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I served a mission in Rome, Italy from 2015 to 2017. I eat a whole food, plant-based diet, which I believe helps my running. I like chocolate shakes on sunday nights and I will always call the Pacific northwest home.

A kind of  chilly, damp morning to start out with but I didn't feel cold at all during the race wearing just my shorts, singlet, and gloves. Sunny and no wind. Crazy how a 10K seems like a quick race and one that hurts more in your lungs than your legs when your recent races have been further distances. The time was a bit dissapointing but not too bad. The 6.29 mile course according to mapmyrun put me at 5:04 pace or 31:29. Based on my rough experience with hills last time I was worried about today, but I guess with the pace I was going at, they were never a major issue. I really wanted the win for the money to buy new shoes. In addition to trainers, my vaporflies felt less springy today and should be replaced. The race strung out within a few hundred yards to being me and one other guy but he threw in a surge once we got to the top of the hill and I thought I was going to really have to work for the $100 difference between 2nd and 1st place. I passed him quickly at 1.25 miles or so, but at the 2.5 mile turnaround, he was lurking and kind of scaring me. At the next turnaround spot the gap increased, but I was still freaking out the last mile when we joined up with the 5Kers because every runner I heard in my periphery could have been him sneaking up for the win. Overall, it was a fun experience and kind of reminiscent of travel trips with the team as I flew here yesterday. I got like 2 hours of sleep last night but knew that wouldn't bother me too much for the race. My tummy was also topsy turvey while running. Nice to win my third race in three tries post-college, even given the level of competition. Not terrible for less than 3 months post surgery.

That's a serious Turkey Trot! Congrats on the win and the winning streak.
