After training so poorly last week, I decided I better get up today and get going, got in an easy 4 this morning. Tonight I did a 2.5 mile warm-up over to Hurricane High School, then tried my luck at doing 4x800m repeats.  It has been some time since I've done any speed stuff, I've mostly been doing races lately and nothing else too fast.  I was a little concerned running this workout rigth after dinner, but I managed to keep everything down.

Just three easy miles tonight, I was really upset my Garmin stopped working, so I'm going to need to see how I can get it fixed or replaced.  I have really enjoyed using it, and I can't even begin to think about training without one.  Along with my ipod and my nike sunglasses, the garmin has been one of my best running purchases.

7 miles tonight with Steve, Bill and Clyde ran from the store down Diagonal to Warthen Park then back to the store which was six miles, I had done 1 mile before just to make sure everything was working right with my Garmin. I thought my watch had quit on me last night, but after some prayers and more time charging up, it appears everything is fine. I think I must have just ran the battery down too low. Usually I'm really good about recharging it after everytime I use it, it may not have been probably secure on the cradle the last time I went to charge it. Anyway, everything looks good for this weekend. I'm feeling pretty good and looking to have a good race to kick off the summer! I wore theAsics DS Trainers tonight, I now have 257 miles on them, I'll probably wear them for a few more weeks top them out at 300 then get either a pair of Landreth or Cumulus.  I have 166 miles on the Asics Nimbus which has been a good shoe, just a little heavy for my liking.  The DS Trainer has been a good shoe, still I like the Nike Zoom Miler the best of any shoes I have been training in the last few years, but since Steve doesn't carry Nike I'm almost completely converted to Asics! The St. George Running Center has been really great to me, would highly recommend any of you bloggers out there to drop into the store the next time your down in St. George.

Ogden Half Marathon this morning.  Just want I was hoping for, a decent race to begin my summer of training.  I was satisfied with my race considering where my training is at right now, but I was hoping the time would have been a little faster than the Hurricane Half.

Bill and I warmed up with 2 miles before the start, then finally got going at 7:00 am, I wish they would have started at about 6:00, because it warmed up pretty fast.  I was really hurting the last few miles of the race.  Anyway at the start I met a couple of new people from the blog, so it is always nice to be able to put a face with a name.

1- 5:52 tried to get out at a pretty good pace.  From the start I was pretty much in 7th place.  The winner took off from the start and Chris Rogers and two other guys running with him were in a second pack, then Scott Browning and another guy, then me.

2- 6:13 decent little hill, but I was happy with my effort felt like I was getting into a good rhythm, still I figured this might be an interesting race since I was already in "no man's land" Scott and Tyler ahead running good and feeling no pressure from anyone behind.

3-6:04  Heading towards the dam and then the fun downhill

4-6:05

5-5:48- Just enjoying the downhill, my ankle really started giving me some problems on the downhill

6-6:03 took a GU and the overall female runner came flying by me, I managed to stay pretty close behind her for the next 4 to 5 miles

7-5:58

8-5:53

9-5:43

10-5:44 Still feeling alright, but legs starting to cramp up.  I really didn't care for the last few miles, running on a paved trail weaving back and forth through the trees

11-6:06 the legs are really starting to feel it, and the heat is now much more intense, I pulled off to the side at one point and run through a sprinkler that was going on one of the city parks

12-6:30 Just tempted to stop and walk at this point, but just continue to plod along.  One mile to go!

13-6:40 Finally get off the paved trail and out to the open city street, I can see the finish but it takes forever to get there.

.19 1:09

Finish in 1:19:54 on my Garmin, 1:19:58 official.  I was pleased with my effort and finishing in the top 10 considering the pretty large field and the decent runners ahead of me.  It was also nice to place 2nd in my age division and receive a pretty nice plaque.

Overall, I enjoyed the race and the course.  I am glad I decided to switch and run the half, instead of the full.  It was really exciting to watch the marathoners came in.  Especially the top guys.  Great job to Paul.  It was awesome watching him fly down the stretch to victory.  Also great job to Steve Ashbaker and Sasha on finishing in the top 6.  Other bloggers also ran well with many PRs  Ted, James, and Cody all had great races.  Right when Bill and I were leaving we were able to talk to Steve Olsen who ended up running the full marathon and did very well 2:43 something.  Also saw Logan Fielding who ran 2:55.

Bill, ran smart as his PF starting hurting around mile 7 so he just coasted it in in 1:39 to avoid any further injury.

Next up for me is the start of summer vacation and the start of summer training.  Coach Dave has given me one pep talk already and Clyde and I discussed some training ideas last week on our run, so now is just the time to get started putting in the miles. St. George will be here before you know it!  Hoping to run under 2:40 this fall.
