Hurricane Half not a great day for me, but before I go into details about my race. Just want to say Congrats first to my wife. She did a great job on her first 5K since high school. Her time was about 4 minutes faster than she was hoping for, so she did awesome. Also it was great to see Steve Hooper have a good race, along with Ryan, Bill and Marcie. My race didn't go as I had hoped, but I think most of that could be attributed to my lack of training the last few weeks. Before my calf injury I felt like I was getting into decent shape and then that injury set my training back about a month. Anyway, last week was a good week with 60 miles, but it was evident today I still have a long way to go with my training. However, I don't want to be too hard on myself. I felt great on my run last night, maybe even pushed it too hard. Got home watched the Jazz win, which was great then tried to get to bed. Anyway, we had a pretty short night. Both Jarren and Jansen have been a little sick this week and last night was really difficult with Jarren. Sunny and I both took turns being up with him. Things got worse when I set my alarm to go off at 4:50 pm, instead of am. I still don't know how I woke up at 5:25 and managed to catch the bus. My biggest mistake this morning was grabbing a slimfast shake to drink. Not a good idea for a pre-race breakfast I guess. Anyway, got up to the start late and didn't have much time to warm-up. The race started off ok, but I probably went out too fast which might have lead me to feeling so terrible later on. 1-6:01 2-5:47 3-5:59 4-6:23 5-6:23-Really start feeling tight and some cramping
-6:42- Pretty much lost all focus on these next three miles and figured I would just try to enjoy the scenery
-7:08-walked through the aid station and did some stretching
-6:42 9-5:44 tried to push it on the downhill, but really not feeling that great
-6:22 11-7:07-really struggled running through La Verkin
-7:56- Got chicked here by Erica Schramm, but didn't even care.
-7:04- Just nice and easy Overall time was 1:25:35 (6:34 average) which was 5:40 slower than last year. Even though I didn't run as well as I wanted to or should have I was still happy to be at the finish and listen to other people talk about their races. I've been pretty fortunate the last few years to usually have decent races, but today just wasn't one of those days. So I guess we just move on and continue training and get ready for the next event. When we got home I tried to take a nap, but ended up spending more time in the bathroom vomiting, so maybe now I'm coming down with the same thing my boys had. This afternoon has been one of mostly laying around and dealing with stomach issues. I did manage to roto till the garden area an hour ago, but that took about all the strength I had. Side note my weight has been going down, which is good. I've been right around 145 (I was 155 at Christmas) but would like to get it closer to 135-137 this summer. Speedstar-77
