Good start to the week, even though I had to head out for the run at 6:30 pm. I was just going to do an easy 5 miles over to Movie Gallery to return a DVD and then back home, but since Movie Gallery is close to Hurricane High School I decided to continue on over to the track and do a few 800s at Marathon Pace.

1-3:07 not too bad, easy 400m recovery

2-3:04 not trying to push it, still need to ease into any speedwork, and build more of a base

3-3:03 hip and legs feeling pretty good

4-2:56 decided to push it a little more, not bad considering I'm pretty out of shape

Easy 2.5 miles back home. I'm still feeling it would be better to run the 5K race this Saturday instead of the half marathon.

Big zero today.  Worked too many hours today, then had church stuff the rest of the evening.

3 miles on the dreadmill, then to my surprise the thing just shut off. I think it may have overheated. Anyway, I was ready to be done. Actually I was going to do 5 but stopped at 3, now it is off to set up for a funeral tomorrow. Things never slow down.

Good run with the club, even though I didn't feel that great tonight. I did two miles before I left with the group. Half way through the run I stopped and stretched a bit, and then I ran one mile in 6:22, the rest of the way wasn't too fast. I'm a little nervous for the 5K race on Saturday, I still don't feel like I'm any kind of shape to be racing, but I guess we have to start somewhere. Overall average 7:42

Went and played basketball this morning, good workout. The runs this week have felt ok as far as my hip pain, a little tight and painful when I woke up this morning. I would really like to get over these little nagging injuries. Looking forward to the dinner party tonight.

6 Easy miles tonight, however the cold wind made the run seem pretty hard. Went from house over to the Chevron in Hurricane then out to 400 South and back home.

Nothing to get too excited about. I ran the 5K race this morning, which turned out to be a pretty good experience, considering I'm about 10-15 pounds overweight and out of shape. My goal going in was to be satisfied with anything in the 18:00's and not too disappointed with anything slower since I feel like I'm just starting up again. Anyway, I did a 2 mile warm-up to be sure my legs and body were awake. Then I watched the half start and took off my warm-ups and became to really enjoy the nice crisp temperatures.

1- 5:55 Didn't get out too fast, I think I figured I was in 10th place the after the first mile

2-6:18 Not a great mile, but did pass a high school kid.

3-6:05 Passed another high school kid and closed the gap on another high schooler that had been ahead of me since the second mile.

.01-:28- No real kick or speed today, just took it easy to the finish

I took 8th overall and 3rd in my age division. I was actually surprised I didn't think the 5K would have quite the competition that it had. Overall, I'm glad I at least attempted to do a race and now I have a starting point and we will just continue to move forward the next few months. The hips and legs felt pretty good, no real pain which is a good sign. After the race Bill, Lindsey, and I jogged out about 2 miles and watched the leaders for the half come in.

That was fun cheering people on. Reminds me of a good quote.

"We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." - Will Rogers

Anyway, Logan and Nick had a good battle going on and Sasha come along looking pretty strong. I sang a little of the Bingo song to get him going and then Dave showed up not far behind Sasha which was a good sign. Encouraged Dave to go after him, which he did. Nice race Dave! Bill and I watched many other bloggers come by which was lots of fun. Mike and Steve looked pretty good when they came by and we were going to run back with them, but then we decided to wait for Marcie to come along. We ran the last 1.5 miles with her and she did an awesome job finishing up.

After I got my award I came home and did another 1.5 mile to make it 10 for the day, not great but this week was better than last, and last week was better than the week before so hopefully things will continue to get better.
