Nothing to get too excited about. I ran the 5K race this morning, which turned out to be a pretty good experience, considering I'm about 10-15 pounds overweight and out of shape. My goal going in was to be satisfied with anything in the 18:00's and not too disappointed with anything slower since I feel like I'm just starting up again. Anyway, I did a 2 mile warm-up to be sure my legs and body were awake. Then I watched the half start and took off my warm-ups and became to really enjoy the nice crisp temperatures. 1- 5:55 Didn't get out too fast, I think I figured I was in 10th place the after the first mile 2-6:18 Not a great mile, but did pass a high school kid. 3-6:05 Passed another high school kid and closed the gap on another high schooler that had been ahead of me since the second mile. .01-:28- No real kick or speed today, just took it easy to the finish 18:48 average 6:03 Asics Speedstars-64 I took 8th overall and 3rd in my age division. I was actually surprised I didn't think the 5K would have quite the competition that it had. Overall, I'm glad I at least attempted to do a race and now I have a starting point and we will just continue to move forward the next few months. The hips and legs felt pretty good, no real pain which is a good sign. After the race Bill, Lindsey, and I jogged out about 2 miles and watched the leaders for the half come in. That was fun cheering people on. Reminds me of a good quote. "We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." - Will Rogers Anyway, Logan and Nick had a good battle going on and Sasha come along looking pretty strong. I sang a little of the Bingo song to get him going and then Dave showed up not far behind Sasha which was a good sign. Encouraged Dave to go after him, which he did. Nice race Dave! Bill and I watched many other bloggers come by which was lots of fun. Mike and Steve looked pretty good when they came by and we were going to run back with them, but then we decided to wait for Marcie to come along. We ran the last 1.5 miles with her and she did an awesome job finishing up. After I got my award I came home and did another 1.5 mile to make it 10 for the day, not great but this week was better than last, and last week was better than the week before so hopefully things will continue to get better.
