Dustin I am going to be your coach for a minute, so bear with me. I am not chiding you in any way; just someone outside looking in. Take what you want from it and kick the rest to the curb (because that is where I usually belong).

I went back over your blog from March-present to see it all your workouts and evaluate it a little. I did this only because I think you are the most gifted runner around (okay maybe excluding Hobie!) and could really break through to some awesome racing if you want. The big thing I noticed is lack of mileage. And it is adding up! 20 times in the 52 running days (Monday-Sat.) you have run 6 miles or less. We all need breaks - crap, I took one Friday and Saturday and wanted to take a lot more - But if you pick it up here soon, you could really hit a tremendous time at St. George.

If you run Ogden, use it as a springboard to finish off the Spring and move into a strong, long summer of training.

Again - a long reply, and you're probably saying, "shut up, Holt!" But it is time to train...!

Dustin, on a totally outside basis, I would say ditch the race. But after I have paid for a race, I am not ditching it - so, I would switch to the half (to avoid injury and allow quicker recovery). Then use it to get you off to a good summer of training. The big thing I have notice in helping my training is miles. But they don't come easy. Like you said - getting up early is easier said then done. I have just decided this week, however, that it must be done. It is not a question - I MUST GET UP! Otherwise everyone else is getting miles in and improving, and I am not. After getting up extra early this morning, I am amazingly still functioning and alive. Come this evening it may not be the case, but that's okay. If anything, it will cut down on my time wasted watching tv.
