Today, I had a nice opportunity to run with Paul as it fit perfectly in both our schedules. There are definite advantages to running with him. One big one is that he doesn't go up silly mountain sides at 12 mins per mile. We instead run on very reasonable grades at brisk paces. That means we can get a decently long run in in under 2 hours. I made it home by 9:45! And I slept in until 7! Amazing! You do have to time it right though because he can get carried away averaging sub 6 pace all to easy. I happened to catch him during his taper and with no ambitions to do any sort of work. Therefore the pace was mild with lots of chatting and catching up. Good times.
We headed up Smithfield canyon climbing about 200' a mile keeping things well under 8 min/mile until the last couple miles where the climbing picks up and the road turns to dirt.
