Big Workout -

I officially signed up yesterday for both TOU and TOU half.  I just can't say no.  What is my problem?  Since I am now committed, I decided go for it over the next month and see what I can pull out.  That meant that today was an early awaking to go visit BSF canyon in the dark.  I drove to the east end of hollow road and started up the canyon.  I was greeted by the usual 30mph canyon wind for the first ~2 miles.  I went up the canyon 6.5 miles to the park at a slow pace (7:20ish ave) then did 7 miles of tempo down the canyon.  The goal was 6 min pace.  I nailed it, but was very fortunate with the monster tailwind towards the end.

I'm proud of you for running the Monster Hill! It's a good tradition to have that can only help. You're representing the Logan FRB well.

I think I'm signing up this week for both, as well.

I only went part way up...I thought about you during the hill though...

I am planning to bury both of you at the TOU half. just give me a 30 minute head start.

What are your thoughts on pacing Nan and Allie in TOU? They are shooting for the course record of 2:47. There might be a surprise from Nan in the second half, I hope you can handle it if it happens. Deep down she has a sub-2:30, and some of that may come out. In any case, you just take them through the half in 1:22, if you feel good, push it, if not continue to be the ladies' man.

Sasha -

Tempting. That time is within my current capability but not agonizing slow like it would be to pace a BQ-attempt person. Deep down, I still want to PR (2:38), but I have serious doubts about that this year. I would like to wait until the 1/2 to see where I am at. If I run 1:15 or faster I would think a PR is within my reach. Anything slower than that would put me 2:40-2:45. What do you think?

Cody:

Part of the problem is that when you've had a layoff or an interruption, half is a rather poor predictor of the full. So even if you run a screaming time in the half, it does not necessarily mean that you would be ready to run a good marathon.

I would say if 2:38 is miraculously in the cards that day, it would still not hurt to run the first 6 miles on pace for a 1:22 half. Plus the ladies might have neighing horses and make you go a little faster.

From Cody on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 17:47:36 from 69.9.58.17

Sasha-

I agree. The only other variable is that there may be a large group shooting for sub 2:40 that I can latch onto and camp out for the first half.

The smart plan would be to pace the girls though to keep me from going out too hard and blowing up like I did in May. My training has been somewhat similar to the spring training.
