I finally gave in and bought myself a road bike. I am so excited! I got to ride it today and it is fast. I bought it used. I still don't have proper shoes, so I went in my running shoes today. I biked up to the Quad via the Blvd working pretty hard. 3.6 miles in 13 min (16+mph). Then I ran on the Quad doing laps in the grass. 3 miles in 23:10 (7:43) 156. Then jumped back on the bike and flew down 4th north and on home. 3.86 miles in 11:00 (counting waiting at stop lights and stop signs) (21+mph). I hit 36mph down the hill not really trying. Fun stuff.

Don't worry, I won't put my biking mileage on the blog so you purists won't freak out.

PM: 2 miles with Beth pushing the kids in the stroller.  Felt very tired.

Man, I envy your life, sounds like you're always exercising in great places!

So, your blog is titled Tendonitis... I think I have it on the top of my left foot, right where the foot and the leg meet, and it hurts when I run only... have you ever had it there, and is that what it feels like? Any recommendations?

Congratulations for your road bike - sounds like you'll be enjoying it a lot!

From Cody on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:23:10

My current injury is a little lower on the foot then yours it seems. I feel it on the side of the foot right at the fifth metatarsal. Peroneal tendonosis. I would read some of my blogs from the last month to see more details. http://cody.fastrunningblog.com/blog--Pool-running-45-minI-went-to-Pod/06-09-2008.html

I recommend pool running as that has helped me stay "in-shape" while letting the foot heal. The TENS unit has been helpful too. You must let it heal though!

From Jon on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:25:46

Are you done with the pool swimming? Any idea when you will be ready for longer (than 3 mile) runs? I'm getting bored by myself. Plus you will have to show this awesome new bike to me.

From Lucia on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:33:12

Thanks Cody. It seems you had pain even when you weren't running, which doesn't happen to me. I guess I should see a doctor to find out better what I have, but I can't find a good doctor around these places, it seems Utah has all the good ones! I'll try pool running... thanks!

From Cody on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:38:37

Lucia-

It seems you have caught it early. I would recommend cross training until the pain goes away. That way it doesn't progress into something bigger like what I had. Good luck!!

Jon- I am NOT done. I will be pool running tomorrow and many more times. I think it will help me heal faster. I was just excited to ride my bike today. I will be doing 3 mile runs for a while still (not sure on the time-line yet). I have to play it by ear. Lots of 2-a-days with easy miles.

From Jon on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:40:10

If you do any 3 mile runs in the evening and want company, let me know.

From josse on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:43:43

I love my road bike. In the winter I put it on my trainer and ride indoors it's great. Watch out for Jon's out on the road they might be hazardous to you health;)

From Jon on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:47:25

Yeah, I might smell so bad running in the heat that you pass out from my fumes and get hit by a car. Is that what you meant, Josse?

From josse on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:50:09

Yep something like that. Just make sure you leash yourself to Jon and then he will come with you and shield you from the impact.

Enjoy Taylor's old bike. I am glad that someone is actually using it. It is a shame when people buy nice bikes like that and let them sit in the garage. Best of luck getting healthy.

From Cody on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:51:44

You would certainly distract people in those green shorts...Let alone the smell from never washing them...

I will let you know when I am not running with Bethany in the evenings

From cody on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:52:48

Thanks Seth -

It is a good one. It will not be idle much...

From Andy on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:53:46

Are you still up for Northwest Passage?

From cody on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:56:22

Andy-I am all in!

Unless I hit a major setback I will be ready to roll..

From Jon on Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 11:05:33

I hate to disappoint you, but I now wash the shorts regularly. And I am contemplating not wearing them for the trail race, instead wearing my training shorts (more pockets could be very useful on the run).

Glad to see you ended up with Taylor's bike. It's nice to keep things in the family.
