Ran my annual Birthday Challenge run. 31 years old today- every year this gets a little harder:) So my plan was to do this run out on the Little Black Mt loop. I got out there and got running just before 7 a.m. Wanted to finish the workout as a first priority. Up next I wanted to try and hit Tinmanish tempo on the middle 10 and the last goal was to feel strong throughout.

I did the first mile as a pre-warmup in (8:26) north of the truck. I saw a badger on this part (way cool to see) I wanted to keep all 3 ten mile loops to themselves.

10 mile warm up in 1:14:58 or 7:31 avg. Just tried to relax and not work or think about the distance during this part. This section seemed to go on forever and was harder than the next two loops combined.

10 mile tempo in 1:03:58 or 6:26 avg. A pretty solid effort here. The whole loop is on dirt roads or trails. You basically climb for the first 5.3 and then gradually drop back around. I hit straight 6 min pace on the flat sections, sub 6 on the downhill and over 6 on the uphill? Anyways I was way happy about the time for a workout done solo.

10 mile cool down in 1:09:21. Felt strong all the way to the finish and never felt a "wall" coming. That is good for a longish distance like this. This loop was the most enjoyable. Just an amazing morning out- slight overcast, no wind, nice smell of the desert in full bloom!

I took note of where I was at the 26.2 mile mark (3:02 and some change). So I missed a sub 3 hour marathon this morning but still got my BQ to keep it respectable. Had a good time and wished my running buddies would have had the day off too to come run.

Congrats on making through another year. Good job on the run. If youd have said something last night I would have joined you for 20 this morn. But then maybe Im not one of your buddies.

ha ha James of course your a buddy... I'm sorry I didn't offer. I just assumed you'd be working. But there's another lesson in life about assuming. "Assuming makes a (blank) out of you and me":)

Happy birthday, man. I was wondering why your mileage was so high- a 31 mile run would sure explain it!

Oh, I have to say... 10 mile warm up at 7:30, 10 mile tempo at 6:30, and a 10 mile cooldown at 7:00 pace? Dude, you are in awesome shape!!!!

Hey, is Zion West Rim run passable yet? I'm toying with the idea of doing the whole thing sometime soon.

From Superfly on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 12:57:29 from 208.117.127.110

Thanks Jon- As far as the Zion run... It's ready and you should come do it and bring those other two with you. Let me know and I'll get the guys down here on board. It would be sweet!

From Jon on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 13:13:18 from 75.169.140.47

I'll talk to Cody and Paul. If we do it, it would either be next weekend or the one after.

ooogh, ooogh, pick me. Hey can I come w/ you guy's to run the west rim? Sounds awesome. I wasn't into my long runs when I was living down in st. george kept battling injuries, "knock on wood, no more"

Happy (late) birthday. And congrats on getting a 100-mile week. I'll have to pass on the Zion run. That kind of stuff will have to wait until my retirement from road whor...mmm...edit that...for family friendliness. Will have to have wait until I'm done selling my running for money on the roads.

From Superfly on Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 11:15:33 from 208.117.127.110

Thanks Paul. You should reconsider the Zion run. It's just a easy talking, taking pictures, eating granola nice morning down a really groomed trail. As long as the pace stays EZ there is no side affects from it...

And everyone is welcome to join!

Jon any word on your plans if any? I talked to Logan when we ran last week and he said he could do it this week but not next... I haven't talked to any of the other guys yet.
