1 mile warm up with Logan. 20 F at the start.

35 miles... race was only 32 miles but....

We started out and from the begining I was feeling it today. Everything was clicking. Smooth, fast and swift with low effort. So I lead up to about 5 miles and then two guys took off and I though I'd back off and just kind of hang behing them. Then we hit snow- up to our knees until mile 13ish. This section sucked big time but everyone had to deal with it. Splits were way slow and I tripped twice here in the crusty stuff. After the second aid station (13 miles) we hit a flatter road with snow but it had been driven on so we could now (run). Karl was right by me here but I laid it down and couldn't see him anyomre by around 17.

I was in 2nd place and closoing fast on the first guy and feeling like never before. Just felt great. Then I took a wrong road and went out 1.5 miles before I realized what had happend.... SUCK! Back around and to the course. I was totally crushed. Couldn't believe I was so stupid and at that point I lost the fire. Just kind of slowley made my way back in (this all happened at mile 21). From here on out I walked up all the hills and was so sad... I really wanted to lie down and cry. Ended up taking 2 more bad turns but only lost around 5 min's total on those.

I'm so mad. I know I would have won. I haven't felt this smooth forever and was only getting stronger until the wrong turn. The guy who was in front of me totally died. Plus I would have caught him in under half a mile.

I'm really ready to run a race without any *'s by them. Like this one was great and I know I would have won but.... It's time for some positive karma.  Anyways finished in like 10th overall and just under 5 hours. I was totally on pace to break 4 and this was on a very slow year.

Karl Meltzer won the race but when he finished he thought he was in 2nd... to me. He didn't know I had gotten lost. He ran a 4:19. I think I would have been in the 3:50's.

What do you do? It's not his fault I can't follw instructions so a win's a win. But I was't the only one who got lost more that once today.

Big time bummer. What do you do? Lick your wounds, then lace up and go again. You'll get what's coming eventually. But I'm pumped for you that you were feeling so good...very promising for the future.

I'm with Paul, sorry about the miscues, but you ran strong and felt good which is a huge plus. Just put it behind you and move on to the next one (easy to say, I know...so for now be mad but then let it go).

Son of a. That sucks. Glad you were feeling so awesome though. I new you would run well, but that is really something. Sorry buddy.

I guess you have to look at this as a good sign for the rest of the season- you're finally feeling great again and things are clicking. Stinks about the wrong turn, but that won't happen in many races, so can't worry about it. Keep training hard and you will have * free races.

I also took a wrong turn, maybe at the same place. Ton of footprints headed in that direction when I went there, but I noticed footprints coming back so only wasted about a half mile. Way to go, great run. Wrong turns happen. Once I made a wrong turn on mile 49.5 of a 50-miler. Cost me 15 minutes. Really stupid, but I laugh about it now. Boy, I felt for you guys when we hit that deep snow, I wondered what it was like for you.

Oh Clyde that really sucks dude!!! I have nothing to say that good make you feel better, at least you can hold on to the fact that you were smoother than you have ever been and you felt better than ever. I think you will have one of your best years yet Clyde, so look to the future your ready for some awesome racing!

From Superfly on Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 23:36:49 from 74.213.207.85

Thanks guys... now after a few hours I just have to laugh... kind of. After the race Karl told me "today I won by default dude, that sucks". That made me feel better that he knew.

It was so fun because the legs did anything I wanted them to. Push hard and they pushed harder. I had a blast until a bad turn and hope this is indeed a sign of good things to come this year.

Bummer on the wrong turns. Glad that your feeling good again. I'd be willing to bet that your going to bust out some good races this year. Congrats anyway.

Sorry to hear about the wrong turn but I agree with others that 2010 is going to be a great year of racing for you. Great job!

Come to think of it, this is eerie similar to the 2007 TOU Half, except Logan was you and I was Karl. I completely thought that Logan had won, until the finish line people convinced me otherwise. Logan, it turned out, had run up into the Bear River Range, made it to Logan Peak before he figured out he was lost, but still somehow took 2nd. It was amazing and tragic at the same time. To this day, Logan still gets angry and spew expletives whenever the subject comes up.

thx Scott-

Paul my report was pretty weak due to lack of good internet service. So I just spilled out a little in the short time I had to get it done.

But I failed to mention that we stayed in a condo with Logan and his family and that Steve and Kendra stayed in one right by us.

Anyways Logan reminded me of that TOU story and it's similarities to this. I could see the fire in his eyes as he told the story:) But I'm more in disbelief than angry... I can't believe I missed that turn and then ran so far before figuring it out and turning around.(Sigh)
