Got up and ran the Riverfest 10k today...This race is 3/4th dirt road and has a decent hill so it is not a very fast course. Melissa (a gal I used to help coach with) is my competition in town- and she wasn't there today-(she ran it last year and it was a race to the finish). My goal was to get a good tempo in today.. Splits were 6:17, 6:31, 6:50, 7:09 (hill) 6:19, 6:36, last .32 miles was 6:05 pace... I showed the course as .12 too long...If this is correct-my avg pace was 6:36...Finished 1st girl, second overall....(First guy beat me by 2-3 minutes) I wanted a little faster time-but oh well-this course isn't very fast..I ran alone pretty much the whole time... Did pass 2-3 guys after the first mile-but other than that I was running solo...Felt pretty comfortable today-(it is kind of freaking me out thinking about running 26.2 miles around that pace though!).. Sat around after and chatted with friends...Waited for the awards ceremony that seemed to take forever and they called the overall winners very last! Why don't they announce overall first?? Went up to get my award and they said they would mail it to me..lol! Oh well...(It wouldn't be such a big deal-but my husband had to get to work...)

Hope everyone has a great weekend...Happy Memorial Day!!

Great job today. A solid 10K is always a great pre-marathon tuneup.

I agree that its sometimes annoying when they announce the overall winners LAST - especially when they don't even give you the award :-0

The best part is when you finish you feel like you could keep going and finish a marathon! Nice work!

Awards are great, but it's so hard to get them. They should start the awards within 15 minutes of the winners coming across. Who wants to sit around for 1-2 hours waiting and waiting for the 65-70 year old age group winners to finish?

way to go, christi!
