Ran 8 on the treadmill today... Did a slight progressive run today... Splits were 9,8,7:20,7:00,7:00,6:57,6:40,6:12... Felt good, even the last mile... I know my splits will continue to get slower due to pregnancy-but I don't want to lose everything-so I will try my best... My ob said he saw the results of the half marathon and he doesn't want me training/doing any races anymore.... He also said he doesn't want me running over 5 miles a day and nothing really fast/no intervals... (I don't gain very much weight with my pregnancies-(18-20lbs-even though I eat like a horse) so that is the reason he doesn't want me running alot...) He wants me to gain more weight...Anyway, I am not sure what to think about his advice.. I feel like I know my body and of course I don't plan on training for a half or full, but if I want to do a 5k or 10k I think I should be able to or if I want to cautiously throw in a little speed every now and again I think it should be fine... What do you think?

I know he is just looking out for what he thinks is in your best interest, but I was able to train and race well into my 5-6 month of pregnancy, with the blessing of my ob. He was more concerned about not getting my heart rate up too high so I wore a hr monitor religiously. I recently read some articles that are debunking that theory too now. I slowed down a ton in my third trimester, but that's probably just natures way of telling us to take it easier to get ready for the baby.

I don't gain more than 23-25 lbs and my babies are really small, but they are all healthy. Pm me if you have any questions.

I only gained 20 pounds with my last pregnancy and my baby was 6lbs 15oz. I thought my Dr. was really cautious. He told me to just not run for more than an hour. But one of my best friends ran 15 miles at 34 weeks pregnant, she's due any day, but her baby is fine. It's so hard because every Dr. has a different opinion, but ultimately I think you are right, you know your body and you will do what is best for YOU and your baby!!

Melody-Hey, thanks for the advice.. Thats good to know you were able to train so far into your pregnancies. I think I will just run by how my body feels. If it is too strenuous I will abviously slow down or not run as many miles. I know that right now I feel better when I run so I will keep it up as long as I can.. Thanks again for sharing what worked for you..

Carina-It's interesting to hear what other Dr's advise. Sounds like your dr was pretty cautious too. I decided I am going to just listen to how my body is feeling and decide what works for me... (btw-you have done a great job getting back into awesome shape since having your baby-I hope I can do the same)
