My back muscles are soooo sooore! But my hammy's feeling better. I might try to run some tomorrow. (hmm...tomorrow is in 2 minutes.) Unless I sleep in. |

| | Last night I was up until 1:30am, hmm...I guess that wasn't last night, but this morning rather...writing a talk for the memorial service my sister is having for her late husband and then translating it into Spanish. I was upset that I missed my P90X workout, but at least the Suns beat the dirty Spurs. I thought I would have to double up my workouts today, but I slept in. So I was upset again, but at least the Suns beat the dirty Spurs. Did I say that already? Then I remembered a little thing called running. Oh, I should run! So I geared up and headed out very slowly. I think my heart rate got higher during my warm-up than my actual run. Time - 19:19 (avg. pace 9:33) Splits - 1 mile - 9:24, 1.02 miles - 9:56 I hate the dirty Spurs.

Another easy run today. I kept thinking about how fast I was getting before this injury. Hopefully I'll recover quickly. I saw Kline Adams this morning and we stopped and talked about the High Priest social tomorrow.

My neighbor from down the street wanted to run Pat's Run next week, but she hurt her ankle. We ran a mile together this morning. She told me she's used to running at 13 minute pace on the treadmill. I pushed her to an 11:45 mile. I think she could do it. Her ankle didn't bother her. It's only 4.2 miles. I'm going to tell her to go for it, unless she wants to train for something else.
After the mile I ran another 3 on my own, still at a slow pace. I think I'm going to just do some slow miles for a while until I feel better. It doesn't hurt to run as long as I'm going slow. I wish my name rhymed with slow, like Joe. Then I could be slowJoe because slowJoe's not really slow anymo'.
Time - 41:16 (avg. pace 10:19)
Splits - 11:45, 9:39, 9:55, 9:59

I got up this morning ready to do Sam's challenge. I had to hop on the internet to read about the correct form for doing the sit-ups. I've always liked to do the spine-busting, back-tweaking, come all the way up and put your chest to your knees sit-ups. But for the challenge you are supposed to do a crunchie with a 1 to 2 second isometric hold. Who has time for that? So I did them that way, and I hope everyone else who's doing the challenge is doing them that way, too. Then I did my push-ups. The website shows the proper form for the push-ups. It's pretty standard. I always do my push-ups like that. Then I attempted my pull-ups, but I was so wiped out from the push-ups that I only did one. I decided to go out and get my slow 2 miles in, then come back and attempt them again. I also thought it would be a good idea to not have any extra weight on me when I did them, so I did them in the buff. Afterwards I realized I can't continue to do them like that because you're supposed to YouTube yourself at the end of the challenge.
Sit-ups - 110
Push-ups - 22
Pull-ups - 3
Run time - 17:49 (avg. pace 8:55)
Splits - 8:54, 8:55
In other news, everyone should express to Eric Day their condolonces for the news the doctor's gave him not to run anymore.
Also, everyone should congratulate April on her recent victory in the Abilene Eisenhower Marathon.

I'm still running slow, and I can feel tightness in my hammy, but at least I'm running. That's a good thing, right? Even though I can't run fast, right now I'm feeling as fit as a fiddle. Overall I've never felt so good, and I owe it all to P90X. I bare testimony that P90X works. Its methods are true. I feel it in every fiber of my being. Tony Horton is a true instructor. I leave these things with you and close by saying that everyone should bring it. Amen.

Today I saw two ladies and a big hairy dog again that I saw for the first time the last time I went running. You know what that means. I have to name them. I shall call them Desperate Housewives with Tall Shaggy. I did my WalMart bypass loop because I wanted to do more than the pathetic 3 miles I've been running lately. I averaged 9:11 for the first 5 miles, the I thought I saw the Housewives again, and I desperately tried to catch up. Alas, it wasn't them. It was two new ladies. I already have a name picked out for them if I see them again. I have to wait, though because that's the rules. I think Twinkies needs to worry less about posing for the camera and worry more about his surroundings.

AM Bike Ride
My neighbor bought like 100 bikes from the Tucson PD and is fixing them up and selling them. I bought a mountain bike from him a couple of weeks ago for $25. Then I bought another one a couple of days ago. I rode it to work this morning. I saw two dead rabbits, one dead coyote, one dead prairie dog, and one dead black thing. Maybe a cat? I was waving at all the pedestrians I saw. I surprised one lady so much as she was talking on her cell that all she could do was say hello. I'm sure that caused some confusion on the other end.
Distance - 17.5 miles
Time - 1:20:21
Speed - 13.0 mph

PM Bike Ride
Distance - 17.5 miles
Time - 1:18:51
Speed - 13.3 mph
I started out fast, but by the time I got to Queen Creek I really slooowwwed down. It's been a while since done that much pedalling. I saw a car show near my house, so my son and I rode our bikes over to have a look. My son got too close to one of the classic cars with his bike and got yelled at. So that made a total of 37.3 miles on the day. |

Pu-pu-su challenge
I did my pull-ups first this morning. I got 4 in. I didn't think I would be able to do that many with all the weight I've been gaining lately. We're almost rid of Easter goodies and the leftovers from my brother-in-law's memorial. (Somebody has to eat it.)
Next I did the sit-ups. I got 145 in when I started to get the Hershey Squirts. I finished 5 more for an even 150, then jumped up, and ran to the bathroom. Luckily I have tight glutes, so I was able to maintain full containment.
Then I did my push-ups. I only got 20 in. I think that's less than last week.
Run
After that I went out to do an easy run. I ran up passed my son's bus stop. He didn't say anything to me because he knew he was in trouble for taking his scooter. Then I ran around the Village Loop to the next bus stop. As I was approaching, one of the kids headed there waved at me. I asked if he goes to ALA too. He said yes. Then he started running and passed me. So I sped up and told him there was no way he was going to beat me. (Of course I was just trying to make him run faster.) He kept going, but I could tell he was tiring out. All the parents at the bus stop probably freaked out with me chasing the kid. LOL! Actually, I knew them all, so they got a kick out of it.
Can't wait for P90X tonight. As they say - Bring It!

Plyometrics

Marathon Dreamer had a touching story on her run today. There's a guy that begs for money in the town she lives in. She found him on his way to his favorite corner and gave him a push. He enjoyed waving at the people as he passed them. Luckily I was there to witness it and snap a picture.

Day 18 P90X
Yoga X
I fell asleep on the couch last night, so I didn't do Yoga like I should have. But I got up this morning and did it. I'll double it up and do Legs and Back tonight. I feel great now, but there was a time when I was trying to do the balance postures, and I couldn't. So I got upset and kicked a box. Is it bad to lose your cool during a Yoga session? |

Did anybody notice there's a new name added to my Blogger's I've met in real life list? My Bonnie lies over the Sonoran desert. My Bonnie lies to the south of me. My Bonnie lies on the campus of the U of A. Oh bring back my Bonnie to me!
Sweet little Bonnie came to visit my family today. She's so nice. I didn't get to talk to her a lot because she and my wife hit it off so well, and you know how women are when they get to talking. But it was really cool for her to drive a little out of the way just to see us.
Maybe Bonnie's part cactus, and that's why I like her so much.
Check it out! Bonnie's goofier than me.
I know most people think Dean is a myth, but I actually met him. Bonnie just likes to conceal his identity. I need to get express written consent to post his actual face. It looks a lot like that one, though.

Day 19 P90X - Arms and Back/Ab Ripper X
My back is sore. I think it's because of the weeds I was pulling in my yard instead of the workout.

And today is Julianna's birthday.
We let her get tattoos for her gift.

Now that I've met Bonnie, I'm trying to be a smarter runner. So I stopped every mile and stretched out. I don't like stopping when I run. I do the penguin shuffle before I stop. But I guess it's okay to stop every now and then.

Day 20 P90X - Kenpo X
I've never hit my wife. This morning was the closest I'd come to doing it. It was one of those situations where I'm just going to be punching in the air and if your face should happen to get in the way of my fist, it's not my fault. |

I was just going to run 3 miles this morning, but I saw this bright orange thing coming at me from down the road. As it got closer I noticed it was a lady running. She stopped and turned around. I wondered if she was scared of me or something. I decided I'd better run her down just to make a point. So instead of turning where I usually do, I continued on down my 'around the block' loop. I had almost caught up to her when she stopped, pulled off to the side, and started stretching. Whatever lady. You know you were going down!
