AM Workout

P90X - Kenpo X

I enjoyed Kenpo a lot more this time than the last time I did it.  I was envisioning punching Mother Nature in the neck.

PM Workout

were any cysts involved?

From Burt on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 12:46:04 from 206.19.214.144

Well, it had burst since last time I kicked her, but it was starting to fester again.

From missy on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 13:11:25 from 65.100.213.241

I don't know what Kenpo is...is it like P90x everyone is talking about...I can't stand exercise videos. I'd rather have a snake bite me. It would be more interesting.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 13:17:41 from 206.19.214.144

Missy - It is one of the P90X workouts. I haven't watched your snake biting video yet because I can't watch youtube videos at work :(

How's your hammy doing - you able to stretch it at all after warming up? (Try stretching after a hot shower, too, because that also gets your muscles warm.) Good luck with the P90X - it seems to be pretty popular among the bloggers.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 14:09:36 from 206.19.214.144

Cookie - you know what's funny is I find myself thinking about your advice constantly now. I've just been stretching it lightly. I've been trying to do the workouts nice and easy. Sometimes when I over exert myself, it hurts. Here's a question: should I continue to stretch lightly or just let it heal for another week or so? I'm thinking like a broken bone; if you don't get it set correctly, it may heal, but it won't heal properly and you won't have the full range of motion that you used to. So if I'm not stretching lightly, will the muscles heal up but not in the way they're supposed to?

Did that make any sense?

such violence

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 18:36:12 from 90.195.99.202

Burt that makes sense, yes keep stretching lightly and massage the area too, it helps to get blood flow to it. I am stretching mine 2-3 times day lightly urghhh :)

April - Hate the game, not the player.

Sam - thanks.

That would drive me crazy Burt. Your boss stinks. And you can quote me on that. :)

From CookieLegs on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 01:00:57 from 71.36.82.238

Burt, Are you able to walk without pain? Can you run at all, say at a very slow 12-14 minute mile pace? Or would you still need to run by semi swinging a fairly straight leg? I agree with Samantha about gently massaging the area. But you need to be careful that you only very gently stretch the hammie; if you stop before it hurts you should be okay. Maybe you could work on some other stretching - calves, hips, etc.? They're all connected so it should all help in the long run. Good Luck!!!

From CookieLegs on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 01:11:19 from 71.36.82.238

PS: How are you trying to stretch the hamstring? My hammie was too sore to do a standard hamstring stretch where you sit on the floor with your legs spread out. I found the gentlest stretch was to put my leg (with slightly bent knees)on top of a couple stairs, or on a low chair, then I could either straighten my leg or bend over to get the stretch just right. By this method I was able to more easily "target" the different areas of the hamstring and get a good stretch on the lower hamstring without aggravating the upper hamstring injury. Then I would also stretch the upper hamstring just a tiny bit. Perhaps experiment stretching this way using your "good" leg first. Hope it helps!

From Nevels on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 01:41:22 from 131.204.15.93

the leg extension phase of a good, swift kick to a certain type of lesion is a good hamstring stretch, right burt....

From Burt on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 01:46:22 from 98.177.220.145

Missy - I will tell him. Then I can be another notch on his belt of people that he's let go over the last three years.

Adele - I can walk with zero pain. I'm sure I could run at a very slow pace, too. I choose not to because I'm hoping a week or two without running will "cure" me. I don't think Sasha would agree with that. Anyway, I do stretch all the muscles around it. I'll do some light stretching on it and massage it more. What should I tell my wife when she asks why I'm rubbing my butt?

Nevels - maybe that's how I pulled it in the first place.

From ChrisM on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 05:18:48 from 130.88.123.4

Oh dear Burt what violence, can't you and Mother Nature just make up and be friends?

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 06:50:51 from 78.32.130.9

Burt I am always rubbing my butt ! LOL honestly I am even in public ha ha

From CookieLegs on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 11:26:21 from 71.36.82.238

It's good that you can walk without pain! I think if you walk a couple miles each day for the next week, it will help loosen up your hammie and your range of motion considerably! It will help you get back to running faster!! (You should put what you're doing to recover in your blog, not just in the comments!)

Massage, walk, stretch, repeat...

Oh, and if you'd like to reciprocate, can you please send any extra sunshine you have our way? I swear we've had like 5 blizzards out of the last 10 days!!!!

From Burt on Tue, Apr 06, 2010 at 11:46:16 from 206.19.214.144

Chris - I can't make up with her. If I do, she gets too needy and clingy.

Sam - I guess if it's socially acceptable, I'll do it!

Cookie - Sorry about the weather. Sure is nice here. Sure is nice.

From Merri on Thu, Apr 08, 2010 at 00:55:47 from 160.7.252.148

Punching her in the neck is way better than those below the belt punches you were taking at her last week.
