In his article this month, Greg talks about using these for "speedsters" like himself (speedsters are people who are stronger at fast short races/training but don't feel as comfortable at longer stamina types of races/training -- converse to speedsters are "endurance monsters") as an alternative to tempo runs. For people like me, who prefer longer-stamina type workouts, he uses these workouts to prepare your muscles (neuro-muscular) for speed-based workouts, sort of like hill repeats.
