PR's

5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

OK!  Now we are cooking with gas! For some reason 5 miles finally feels like "a run" ... It is hard to take such a long recovery cycle ... But I won't lie, it is taking a little time to recover ... I am having some fatigue issues that I think will make it a tiniest bit of time to rehab.  It is primarily to do with the radiation, and physiologic stuff from last year - it just makes recovery a bit of a challenge.  The good news is that I *know* I will be running strong again soon! I am making race plans and everything!! For now, I am enjoying the last of the below 100F weeks, in a very short amount of time we will be staring at months of an oven ... For now, I am loving "spring" ...

Happy weekend bloggers!

5! way to go. your smart approach to recovery will pay off. i'm excited to hear you are making more racing plans!

enjoy the "cooler" temps for now...we should hit 90 in slc by monday, so that probably means 150 or 160 in tucson?

Haha ...150F Sounds about right. Perfect weather for me to attempt some midday 20 milers :-)

It has been long enough now for me to forget how much 10ks hurt ... So maybe I will run more of those soon :-) right now? I will be happy to run for a whole hour next week!!

Five miles is sorta a magic number. Anything under that just feels like you're just goofing around. The smart recovery will pay off! Can't wait to hear the upcoming plans.

Have you noticed that marathons seem to take everyone on the blog about 2 weeks or less to recover from? It takes me like 6 weeks, and I've never been through radiation! Anyway, enjoy the downtime, and you'll be crushing your PRs in no time, even in an Arizona summer (UV waves can't mess with you when you're used to gamma rays, right?)

ha ha ha ... for sure Joe! The blog is full of fast recoverers ... I am so glad I am not the only one who seems to take "f-o-o-r-e-v-a" to recover!! UV-gamma, I got it all!

I'm still recovering from my first marathon 18 months ago! :) no rush, make sure you feel good first!

ha ha ha ... oh, Andrea! You are going to be so strong.

Remember how strong Nick Willis came back after his labrel tear and impingment surgery!
