Warmed up 2.6

4x400 with 80 seconds rest: 71, 70, 70, 69. It was cold and my legs are not used to moving that fast.

5x 4 on 3 off. But I had to leave before the last one so I did the first 3 at 5:25 pace and then I did a mile for the 4th in 5:16. Felt good on the tempos, felt like I could easily do 12x 4 on 3 off. I think 5:25 is about 10k pace for me rn, I'd like to think it's half marathon pace- it does feel pretty good, but I think I've got some work to do before I'm quite there. If I can do a flat half at 5:25 pace I think I'll be in good shape to compete for top 3 at Des news if I'm up at 60-70 mpw and get my fueling figured out.

Hilly run in pleasant view, tried to avoid the bad air quality and was largely successful. Legs were sore today, doubt the hills today helped.

Warmed up 2.25 to the the start of the 5 mile tempo.

5 mile tempo at 5:40, it was under 30° this morning and felt the whole thing felt slow and rough. Really nice to have a training buddy on days like this. I'd be in much worse shape if Jake didn't get me out to do stuff like this.

2.75 miles back to the car, we ran into McKenna and did 2x2 minutes at 5:50 pace during the cool down.

Easy run between two big days. A bit tired, I had a bit of pain in my knee last Saturday and have been monitoring it. I haven't felt any more pain but it's felt a little vulnerable on some of my runs... I need to do a better job of keeping up on my exercises. Once my sauna heater is hardwired in that will help too.

Warmed up 3.5

Paced Josh for his 5k on the track, we came through 2 miles right on pace at 11:15 but he started falling off the last mile. I slowed a little to try and help him not drop off quite as much, ended up with splits of 5:37, 5:38, 5:45. 5k mile tempo in 17:38. According to Garmin my heart rate settled in at about 164-168 for the last 1.5 miles of this, and according to what I've read in the Internet that corresponds to about half marathon pace. So right now on the track I could probably run about 73/74. Not bad at all, I think sub 70 half on the Ogden half course is doable this soring- and if that happens I have a good chance to go sub 2:30 at Des news if I get up to 65-70 mpw and get fueling right.

Cooled down 4.7ish, everyone else finished running when I was at 11.4 and I felt like that was about right for today- makes it more likely I'll go a bit longer tomorrow. We had a big group today, started out with Jake Henry Sammy and Kolten and met up with Josh Joy and Shelby at the track.
