I ran the 5k because I was completely underprepared for the half.

1st mile - 6:41

Probably started a little too fast. Especially considering that I was thinking maybe I'd walk if I got tired.

2nd mile - 7:07

I got really tired at the turn-around point.  I let a couple people pass me, and I just tried to keep my breathing going and not have too much runny nose.

3rd mile and .10 - 7:54

I really wanted to finish strong, so I held back quite a bit.  Geez, it seemed like a really long 3rd mile.  My strategy didn't help much. I ended up not having a kick at the end.  I just cruised in with the runners that were near me.  I was a little disappointed that I didn't finish with a sprint, but totally happy with my time.  I am hoping this encourages me to run more in the next few weeks.

Gotta love the "out of the block" starts. Take it as a learning experience and that is still a great time.

No guts not glory, way to go for it. Rather fight to hang on than wonder why? Good luck on the Grand Slam this year, kick start the running year.

Good job Big Dog! We need to hear more from you and Hotstuffpizza! Who is Kamri? I love that name!

From Big Dog on Mon, Mar 31, 2008 at 16:15:57

Kim, I have been running a little more, I just need to blog it! Also, we have started swimming more again during lunches. HotStuffPizza is really showing some improvement. Kamri has gone from never, ever, running, (or even walking) to almost crawling. She is our 6 month old daughter! She isn't a mini Hot Stuff Pizza though as you might guess, instead I call her Superbaby. Find out more here: yergensenfamily.blogspot.com

Treadmill miles.

I took an "extendo lunch" and ran 4 miles. Then I ran/walked another 2 miles. Then I walked .75. Not sure how long it took me. I was still a little sore from football the day previous. I was hoping to not overdo it, and just get some miles in.

I am running the 10k this Saturday with Little Dog AJ and HotStuff Pizza is running the 5k.

Ran 6-7 miles on virgin river trail in St. George.

Started feeling sick.

Race: Run4Kids (6.2 Miles) 00:47:40, Place overall: 16, Place in age division: 2
Slow milesFast milesTotal Distance
4.202.006.20

It was a beautiful day for a run, and little dog (AJ) was with me as a race buddy.
I had been suffering stomach and digestive issues for a few days and it still hadn't cleared come race time. My goal initially was to beat 45.  Come racetime I modified it to beat 48 minutes.

AJ and I started out quick and ran the downhill 1st mile in 7:05.
Followed the 2nd mile in 6:58. AJ was running pretty easy.  I could tell i was
just slowng him up.
I tried to push it on the 3rd mile. I didn't do so hot. AJ was a little ahead of me, and soon I just told him to keep going and run hard.  I think he felt bad for leaving me.

The 3rd mile came in at 7:37.

For miles 3 and 4 the woman leader (Kjersten) traded spots with me a few times. and some of the time we ran side by side.  Her stride was effortless, and I knew I couldn't last.

4th mile came in at 7:43 and I knew I was slipping. Luckily my stomach was being quiet and mostly pain free.  I resisted the urge to walk, but gave in about a minute into mile 5.  I walked for 45 seconds. Then started out slowly again as the hill just drained all my power.

The 5th mile came in at 8:59.

Then I jogged up the hill to the corner, and I was hoping to have a little more power left for the finish, so I decided to take another walk break.  This one lasted 30 seconds.
By this time, another female runner and another older "so it seemed" runner past me in the middle of my walk.  When I started back up again I just tried to keep my position and finish strong.

As  I turned down into the Coral Canyon turn-off I jogged past the 6 mile marker in 7:49. But I didn't feel like I had a whole lot left, and to be honest, I didn't think it really mattered much.

The 2nd place female runner was definitely in reach, and the "older" runner was close too. But, I coasted in. The last .2 in 1.26 for a 47.36 finish.

As it turns out, the "older" runner was actally younger by 2 years and thus, he was in my age group. He beat me by 1.6 seconds to win our AD. Doh!

I'm not sure how I feel about that.  Would I have run harder if I knew he was in my age division? probably. Should I have run harder anyway? maybe. Was I just happy to be finishing knowing I wasn't feeling 100%? definitely.

All-in-all I enjoyed running because AJ (little dog) beat me by 2 minutes. He trained a little and really ran great.  It makes the Big Dog proud, so even though I am a little disappointed in my effort, and result, I am happy for another run with my son. Plus, HotStuffPizza ran the 5k! Wahoo! That was cool and I am way proud of her doing her first run.

Lunch: 1.5 fast miles. (treadmill)  Well...fast for me.

also, swam .5 mile during lunch

Evening: 6 slow miles outside!!!!

The outside 6 miles run is my version of a 10k. Kind of like Sasha's Uneventful half.

It is my uneventful 6. No hills. Not much scenery.  Except I actually love to run by some of the farms and stuff on Mill Road.  The cool air comes off of the fields and it's kind of fun to see the horses and cows.  Plus every once in awhile a farm dog comes and runs with me.

So happy to be outside running again.

I watched the NBA playoff classic moments while I ran today and hot stuff pizza ran next to me for awhile.

I need to take a couple days off from running to heal, but I will return on monday or tuesday.

I've had a little bit of blood in my pee the last few runs, and after reading online it seems that it is a common ailment for some distance runners.  If anyone else on this blog had had a similar problem or know of other runners with this, please reply.

Thanks.  Big Dog.

Hey, I just created a blog account on this site and was glad to see that there was another blog from someone in Heber. Anyway, if you want to run with a group in the valley, the Midway Running Club runs at 6:00 a.m. Tues, Thurs, and Sat. They generally meet at the Midway tennis courts, but sometimes at different sites to do trail runs, etc. If interested, shoot Tricia Provost (squirt79@gmail.com) an email for the schedule and info.
