AM 4.5 miles on the trail. We started at the trail head by the Zoo and ran to the drinking fountain in Red Butte gardens and back. I told the team to run out 20 mins. and back everyone made it to the drinking fountain, but for a few it took them a little over the 20 minutes. They were so close they wanted to go the whole way. Emily J. lead us in 15 minutes of Plyometrics to finish out the workout. My quads are still sore but 50% better than yesterday.
Our team vans are now booked and the kids are excited for the WBR this weekend. Our team name is Up Yours! It is for colon cancer awareness. We adopted the team name from a team that was unable to run. It was an adult team formed by some parents of our East High XC team. The captain of the team was fighting colon cancer which she found out she had in August. She lost her fight Friday. She was 38 and has a seventh (12) and fifth (9) graders. We have now dedicated our race in her memory. Life is so fragile. I never knew her. She was in great physical shape train for an ironman when she was diagnosed. She never quite believed it and was fighting it. Told some of runners she would be back running with them in no time. Her plans to run WBR didn't happen, but I hope the kids can carry things on and remember how short and precious life is. All we can do is to be the best we can be each day we wake up and challenge our day accordingly. Tell someone how much you care about them today.
