AM 4.5 miles on the trail.  We started at the trail head by the Zoo and ran to the drinking fountain in Red Butte gardens and back.  I told the team to run out 20 mins. and back everyone made it to the drinking fountain, but for a few it took them a little over the 20 minutes.  They were so close they wanted to go the whole way.  Emily J. lead us in 15 minutes of Plyometrics to finish out the workout.  My quads are still sore but 50% better than yesterday.

Our team vans are now booked and the kids are excited for the WBR this weekend.  Our team name is Up Yours!  It is for colon cancer awareness.  We adopted the team name from a team that was unable to run.  It was an adult team formed by some parents of our East High XC team.  The captain of the team was fighting colon cancer which she found out she had in August.  She lost her fight Friday.  She was 38 and has a seventh (12) and fifth (9) graders.  We have now dedicated our race in her memory.  Life is so fragile.  I never knew her.  She was in great physical shape train for an ironman when she was diagnosed.  She never quite believed it and was fighting it.  Told some of runners she would be back running with them in no time.  Her plans to run WBR didn't happen, but I hope the kids can carry things on and remember how short and precious life is.  All we can do is to be the best we can be each day we wake up and challenge our day accordingly.  Tell someone how much you care about them today.

PM Wasatch Athletics speed workout.  Normal warmup followed by speed changes and 15X 400 , 1:18, 1:18, 1:16, 1:16, 1:17, 1:21, 1:15, 1:18, 1:15, 1:16, 1:16, 1:17, 1:16, 1:15, 1:13. Did 400 recovery between each. Cool down around the park for an extra 4.5 miles to finish the day with 20 miles.  I'm very tired tonight.

Bill--Christine Brimley, the woman you mention in your blog, was a friend of mine and I am certain she would be greatly honored at what you're doing at WBR. She loved that race and it's awesome that you're continuing the team in her absence. Her obit is in the Tribune today http://www.legacy.com/saltlaketribune/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=89241296

Bill, my Wasatch Back Relay team had someone drop out, and we need a fairly swift replacement runner. Entry fee is comped, and we should be a competitive team. It looks like you already have a team, but if you know anyone from Wasatch Athletics who is interested, have them email me at rockharrier(at)yahoo.com.
