| Paperwork day today. Been playing too much lately and had to take a full day to catch up on normal life. Plus Sunday I was mugged late at night in a Denver alley and got away from the guys who had got out of a car to assault me and fled when I resisted. Luckily I got the licence plate and they were caught three hours later at the owners house. Freakin insane world we live in sometimes. Lots of paperwork from the company since it was on company's time.
Mdowntime this afternoon was a short run in the late sun, took the kids to a Sushi restaraunt, and practiced knot tying for an hour.

| Busy day getting the kids to school, late homework, and all the crazy errands that consume normal life. Went down to Salt Lake for Rob's 50th party. Had a great evening with everyone celebrating his beginning slide into mental and physical decline. Good food too. |

| Hanging out in Lake City CO for the morning while on call, hoping to get the afternoon off for some rock climbing. Released at 9am though so headed home to make an attempt at London Spire above Willard,Utah. The trail is 50 to 65 degree climb up continuous boulders. Reminded me of the Tetons. Seven waterfalls on the way up. At 7,000 feet the Spire begins and it's a 2,000 foot 5.8 climb. One of the biggest rock faces in Utah and not well known. I made it 3/4 the way up free climbing and ran out of time since I did not want to work my way down in the dark. At one point a mountain goat was climbing directly above me and knocked a rock off that passed within 20 feet. Love this run/climb and looking forward to trying it again with a rack before snow hits. This took 4 hours and very close to 100% effort. |

| Quick local run since today was work all day. Catching Conference by tuning in KSL on the ADF receiver in the plane.
Amazing Twin Cities Race today. Against all predictions one of the fastest. Prelim has 6 guys under 2:15. Masters field barely won by Mbarack. Tracy and Steidle way back in the 2:30s.

| Worked all day. The solution for Chicago's air traffic control system being broken almost indefinetely by the fireman who doused the whole center with water last week is to direct all aircraft flying through most of the central US, underneath Chicago Center's airspace so they fly in local air traffic control systems. Now half the US air traffic flies every day in the middle of thunderstorms instead of over them, fuel burn is triple normal amount, and everybody flies where the general aviation aircraft are. Unimaginable mess.

| Ran up Echo Canyon to the base of London Spire, rope climbed the 1,950 foot Southwest face. I am so slow at this, it's amazing. Weak as a runner. Rapelled down and ran back. One of the top ten trail runs/climbs I have ever been on and my first "Big Wall" climb.

| Today was a trail run up to Jardine Juniper with my son to see how his progression for a R2R November 8th is going. 10 to 12 min pace up and blasted down at 6:27 average. Very cold at 27 degrees, 9am. On Friday he surprised me with a 17 mile trail run on his own with a headlamup from West temple Fork to Mt Naomi. Good run, but even better, a sign that he could have the mental toughness needed for the canyon. Few trail runners can run alone comfortably.
This past week was a tough one for me. I've always wanted to run the Chicago Marathon and had an entry since last year for the American Development Program. I ended up with the kids for the weekend and just didn't feel like leaving them. We tried for flights Friday and Saturday morning and they were just too full to get them on. So we changed plans and headed to Moab for a few days. Much more fun anyways. This latest experience has convinced me that it's time to take a break from road racing and spend more time with my kids who are interested in the trails and climbing. Very hard decision since I'm absolutely injury free right now. But weekends like we just had in Moab with my kids 100% engaged in life are far more important than a run could be.

| I'm finding it impossible lately to keep up my entries on FRB, just too much going on. Four days flying Apple Vacation charters to Punta Cana. Long overnights at a huge beach resort. One of the most difficult or uncomfortable places I've stayed. This is an opulent all inclusive resort with unlimited food. All that people do is eat all day and line the sides of the pool digesting. Kayaks, sailboats, surfboards, and dive gear sits stacked on the beach free to use. The average size of people is at least 250 lbs. This has never bothered me before, but this place is so extreme that it's almost made me physically ill. I've just had to get out on long runs on the beaches to get away. |

| Mt Olympus trail with Mark Payne and Bently. An afternoon to check out our condition for a Canyon run. Great trail to feel out what one will find on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on a R2R2R. 5,000 foot gain in four miles. Bently had a hard day today, just dragged. I think some of the training has caught up with him. Going down he about tanked but got back into a groove finally for the last mile and a half. Mark is just about in perfect shape for a R2R2R.
