Ok, so I'm disappointed and proud at myself at the same time... disappointed because I wasted a lot of time around the house doing nothing productive other than worrying about my life and stressing about whether I'll be able to keep running and working next week, when the summer semester starts, since i'm taking one class that meets twice a week. The house also takes up a lot of my time, since my roommate is gone - I have to take care of the lawn, keep the ants under control, give the cat some attention, get the a/c units out of storage and into the rooms, etc. It seems simple, but it stresses me out... So, I didn't go to Rock Creek Park for that nice long run on the trails up there, and for that I am very upset with myself. I really should've done that! Partly I was not feeling well, and it is ridiculously hot outside and inside (finally today I got a neighbor to help me with the heavy a/c units)... but I should've done it anyways.

Until around 6 pm I was just going to make it a rest day and not run... then i got mad and told myself I had still lots of time to go for a run, and if I went around 7 it would be a bit cooler outside. I didn't have time to make it all the way to Rock Creek Park, but I could go on the mall, which is good because it has a lot of water fountains on the way. So, I grabbed a gel, my keys, and off I went. For that, I'm proud. I beat laziness and went for a 9.4 mile run. I went slow and felt really sluggish at times, felt better after the gel but I think the heat and humidity got to me a bit. I am glad I went, cause if I didn't I would've made it into a pattern of not running when it's so nasty out. When I was coming back home I saw a sign that said it was 94 degrees outside, at 9 p.m. I have ran before when it's even hotter, but not so humid, I don't think. I hope I keep doing this. My shins hurt a little but I'll ice them and should be ok. Now it's a cold shower and off to bed!

Ran to work from home, the long way (Pennsylvania to Mall around Jefferson to Rock Creek Parkway up to M st. ) - very hot already at 6:30 a.m. (84 degrees). Went very slow because of the heat and my backpack, took exactly 1 hour including frequent stops to drink and wait for stop lights.

School starts today... very nervous but hope to be able to run lots still. I just need to manage my time well.

------------

School was great! I think I'm really going to like this class.

After class the weather got ugly here - or did it? Without hesitating, after school I put everything in my backpack in plastic bags, changed into my running clothes, and went out to run home, from Dupont Circle. 4.5 very wet miles, including some sleet, lots of thunder and lightening, and I was back home. I've never felt so alive!!!

The bad news: my shins hurt quite a bit... I think I'm running too much and need to cut back a little. So I will...

Ran from work to milepost 3 of C&O Canal and back, picking up fellow fastrunningblogger and fast guy Aaron on the way. A beautiful day in DC, a little on the warm side but not too bad. Went a little faster than usual to try to keep up with my running companion, but he wasn't even breathing hard no matter how fast I went. Still, I find consolation in having a faster marathon PR than him :) Just kidding - Thanks for kicking my butt, Aaron!

Work got on the way and I couldn't go get my free socks... but I did ran home from work, for a double day witn 5.6 at lunch and 5 in the evening. Tomorow will be easy day, so I rest a little before racing a 10k on Saturday. Oh yeah.... my shins hurt..... icing right now!

Ran at lunch, from the office to the Old Post Office Pavillion to pick up race packets for tomorrow's Lawyers Have Heart 10k race in Georgetown, for myself and the rest of Team Roadbuilders! Wish us luck!

Completed the Lawyers Have Heart 10k with team Roadbuilders! A big PR (48:20) and ran 7:47 miles! I felt that I went out too fast, and around mile 4 I was feeling it... boinking... so I took a gel at the water station and that wasn't that good of an idea - I think I drank too much water. It was hot! I'm thinking gels aren't worth the trouble for short races, cause it takes too long for them to pep you up... Live and learn... The last 2 miles were painful, I thought I'd have to stop running several times, but kept pushing on.

I was only 1 minute behind my fastest co-worker and team member, and the other four guys were more than 10 minutes behind me - I love being faster than those guys, even though they're not really training... they're younger and they're male, so they have natural "powers", while I have to work hard... it gives me something to brag about at work :)  But we all finished and had a nice brunch together afterwards, with three other friends that ran the race as well.

Now I'm wondering what to do tomorrow... if I should try for a long run in the afternoon (I know we're not supposed to race hard and do a long run back to back...) Maybe I'll take it easy today, go for a swim, and try to do a long run on Monday before work...

Happy weekend!
