Completed the Lawyers Have Heart 10k with team Roadbuilders! A big PR (48:20) and ran 7:47 miles! I felt that I went out too fast, and around mile 4 I was feeling it... boinking... so I took a gel at the water station and that wasn't that good of an idea - I think I drank too much water. It was hot! I'm thinking gels aren't worth the trouble for short races, cause it takes too long for them to pep you up... Live and learn... The last 2 miles were painful, I thought I'd have to stop running several times, but kept pushing on.

I was only 1 minute behind my fastest co-worker and team member, and the other four guys were more than 10 minutes behind me - I love being faster than those guys, even though they're not really training... they're younger and they're male, so they have natural "powers", while I have to work hard... it gives me something to brag about at work :)  But we all finished and had a nice brunch together afterwards, with three other friends that ran the race as well.

Now I'm wondering what to do tomorrow... if I should try for a long run in the afternoon (I know we're not supposed to race hard and do a long run back to back...) Maybe I'll take it easy today, go for a swim, and try to do a long run on Monday before work...

Happy weekend!

Congratulations Lucia!! 10K's are a hard distance for their speed and in the heat and humidity they are really a challenge!

Congratulations on your race, I am glad to hear that you did good. Also, instead of the running gel you should try (Jelly Belly) sports beans I use them for my half marathon race and I love them. I usually take one every mile or depending on how I feel one every half mile. Now on the shin problem the doctor told me to put some weights on my foot and lift with it on. I am glad you mentioned the other stuff because I will try using them. And the last thing I wanted to talk to you about was the heart thing. The reason I try to keep my heart rate around 150 is because I am working on my aerobic conditioning. Here I a website you can look and it will explain it better than I can. http://www.drpribut.com/sports/longrun.html I hope this helps. Thanks for your help and have a great day..

I just watched a video on how to heal shin splints. I will give you the link so you can watch it and tell me what you think. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/787346/shin_splints_cure/

Way to PR!! GREAT job! And isn't it the best feeling to kick all those guys' butts?
