Ran from work to milepost 3 of C&O Canal and back, picking up fellow fastrunningblogger and fast guy Aaron on the way. A beautiful day in DC, a little on the warm side but not too bad. Went a little faster than usual to try to keep up with my running companion, but he wasn't even breathing hard no matter how fast I went. Still, I find consolation in having a faster marathon PR than him :) Just kidding - Thanks for kicking my butt, Aaron!

Work got on the way and I couldn't go get my free socks... but I did ran home from work, for a double day witn 5.6 at lunch and 5 in the evening. Tomorow will be easy day, so I rest a little before racing a 10k on Saturday. Oh yeah.... my shins hurt..... icing right now!

Wow...you ran again tonight too! That stinks that you didn't get your free socks. I ended up staying at work late too. Great job getting another double in. Let me know when you want to run again. I hope your shins feel better!

I just read about your shins. Please be very careful with them. i am dealing with the same thing and i have to stop running for a month to let my shin heal. I am also taking 800MG of ibuprofen three times a day and not running. I can tell you something that might help you. The doctor told me that shin splints are the muscle growing away from the bone. One thing the doctor told me to do, and i am doing it. I am using glue sticks and lining them up with my shin and wrapping bandage around them not to soft and not too hard. I hope you understand this. The reason why is because the glue sticks will help keep your muscle from moving away from your bone. So you can try doing this and see if this helps you out. If you are still feeling the pain try taking ibuprofen 800 mg 3x a day. And if it still hurt after that you should stop running. And try cross training. The best thing i have found to use is the elliptical machine. Please let me know if this helps and if it makes sense.

Hi Barry, thank you for your comment - You know, I went to see my doctor twice about this, and he never mentioned to me what you said. It makes a lot of sense! I did take almost two months off from running this year, but when I started running again, even though I went slow and short at first, the pain kept coming back. So I started running again, but still icing and doing some strengthening exercises and elevating my legs at night. I can live with the pain, I'm just worried that it will get worse and result in a long-term injury... How long do you leave the bandages/glue sticks on? I do need to cross-train more... I was biking up until a few weeks ago when my bike got stolen! Thanks again for your help, good luck with your shins!

When i wrap my leg with bandage and glue stick i leave it on most of the day. When trying to decide how long to leave it on depends on if it is hurting or not. If you have pain all day leave it on, or just use it when you are running. Also when you are running i forgot to tell you that to tighten the bandage up a little bit harder than if you are just walking around. But do not keep it that tight after you are done running. Also, i have heard stories about my friends running through the pain and being just fine and i have heard horror stories. Please let me know if you have any more questions. If i do not have the answer i will find out for you. Also, sorry to hear about your bike being stolen.. Barry
