Well, what can you say. I found a disc battery in willem's nose this morning, while I was getting Cooper ready for school. I know it's been in there since sunday. He suddenly got stuffy sunday and since he's asthmatic I didn't think too much of it until he said, "maybe I'm stuffed up because of the battawee I stuffed up mines nose." I freaked and looked in there and didn't see anything. Then he said, "MOmmy it felled out of mines nose and went under da bed". Then he took me in his room and showed me. Sure enough a disc battery was under his bed. Thought nothing of it monday when brown mucus was oozing out of his nose, the kid gets bloody noses all the time. then This morning I was going to try and remove some crusties from his nose. I had him blow a little, and then used the flash light and tweezers and hit something hard, Instead of crying he winced. If that was his septum he'd have screamed. I sprayed saline in there looked again and sure enough there was the edge of something shiney. I pulled it out and it was VERY corroded. I tried not to freak to much. I did a neti rinse with warm water, and decided to wait it out. Took him to the emergency room after he layed down on my bed and went to sleep and I couldn't get him to eat (9:30am).

at the emergency room He just layed motionless on the cot for most of the day. While we were there I noticed that the draninage had left a red, irritated trail down his upper lip as well as a couple of very small blisters. Can we say battery acid. They almost let us go home until they took his temp and it was 102. We were admitted at 3pm. Frankly I was a little relieved. Casey got off of work early, brad wife picked up cooper from the bus stop (those are awesome friends).

I left willem for about 10 min. When I went to get casey from the train station. AS I walked back into t he room will was trying to take out his IV. He was too tired and weak to accomplish the task thank goodness. He sure is strong WILLed. It was a long day and a longer night. NO run today.

I just got back from the hospital! it's 8pm. I got no sleep last night and had the weirdest day ever. Will is doing much better. He took a 5 hour nap today which bothered me, but he's not running a fever anymore. Even though will's not incredibly sick I found myself to be weepy today, which is pretty out of character.

Casey came to the hospital right after Cooper got on the bus. He then went home to eat lunch and shower and surprised me by bringing my running stuff to the hospital. He layed it down and said, "Annie, go run. Get out of here" So I did. I made it half a mile and started to cry. All of the sudden I felt so vulnerable, I never do well with that. Then my lack of control over willem's situation overwhelmed me. I turned around and ran back to shelley's house and stood in her shower and cried. I wasn't worried that willem was going to die or anything, just upset that he had to be sick. Mad at myself for the situation (which wasn't my fault but a mother's guilt isn't logical), for being upset that I didn't get a run in yesterday(so selfish). Then I felt stupid for being so weak and crying about it, I got really angry at myself. Then I just wanted my mom, more than anything in the world. I wondered, how did she handle it with me. Where did she summon her strength from? My stays were frequent and serious. As a kid, you blow stuff like that off. "Oh I'm in the hospital again, Yipeee that means I get as many popsicles as I want and I cant watch cartoons all day" Kids don't feel the gravity of situations, it just is what it is for them. unlimited cartoons and ice cream, cool presents. Here I'm sniveling over an infection and she had to worry about much more pressing issues, much more frequently, and ususally both her babies were admitted at the same time. What did she do when they thought I had cystic fibrosis, or luekemia? It may have been a fleeting diagnosis, like something off HOUSE, but it would've been devastating to hear. I suddenly understood and respected her fortitude for the first time ever, and I wanted her to be with me and tell me what to do. After all those illnesses she still put me in athletics, because she knew they'd make me stronger, and they did! That alone took a lot of strength. I can't imagine the slack she got for that! She is my hero.

Needless to say I ran 1 mile today.

I just talked to my mom. oddly enough she said she was in a funk all day today. She knew she was worried about will but said she couldn't pin point the source of her dark cloud. When I told her how much I wanted her today she started bawling, and said, "that is it. That's what was pulling at me all day" Of course Casey chalked it up to estrogen. He needed sisters, or nieces or a daughter or something.

my shin was fine (sore after). It took me 4 miles to loosen up, and me to feel "normal". I was just totally fatigued. I'm glad I was conservative and kept it at 6. I ran the loop Casey "found" and enjoyed it. I found an Ice rink! that could be fun... maybe this year I can learn to let go of the wall!

Went to the E.N.T. MD... Looks like the battery did eat through Willem's septum. There's not much we can do, other than make sure the isn't further damage of the area. Impressively enough Willem hasn't complained once. Not even a groan. He's insanely tough. I'll just be glad when the stress wanes.

This was ROB'S MARATHON PACE (5:40). I had hoped to help him through an entire 5 mile loop. (We cut out the beach hill.) Our first mile together was a 5:34. That felt great. Then into the second mile I just shut down. My body just gave out. It was very frustrating for me, considering I know I can do 5 miles at 5:40 pace (or at least close). I felt very very tired. I puked when I woke up, which was weird. I've been a non-puker ever since my mom made me clean up my own (she'd get sick cleaning it up so we had to clean up our own) Then I had the other kind all day and could eat a thing! Shin's were a non-issue which is great! I made up for the lack of nutrients at Giordanno's late, after I felt better.

Rob was a dominating force I must say. It was impressive & inspiring to watch his stride so easily tackle the workout. He's ready, a force to be wreckoned with! Next time he does this workout I'll be hydrated, and ready to provide full support (as if he needed it)!
