What a difference a pair of shoes can make.  Got to the rec center before the club and put in 4 miles.  I couldn't believe how much easier the pace felt.  The club ran up to Davis Blvd which includes a pretty good climb.  I ran with Jeremy and he really pushed the pace.  I could really feel the effort going uphill but kept telling myself that if I want to get back into shape that I have to push it.  I was able to catch my breath on the rolling hills then we pushed the pace once we hit the downhill.  Going down, I just focused on being smooth and getting my feet off the pavement as quick as possible.  It was a good run and I'm glad Jeremy was there to push me.  I definitely would have gone a lot easier had I been alone.

I am happy you new shoes worked! I am pretty sure I heard Jeremy say you were pushing him! Maybe you guys push each other in the best possible way!

Nice run Andy!!

Glad you like your new shoes. I was hoping for a miracle and bought a new pair on Thursday, but hated them! No miracle cure for me.

So just out of curiosity, when you are pushing yourself what type of pace are you running?

Very nice Andy. New shoes and new legs. You've inspired me to switch out to a new pair. Thanks.

Make that a new pair of shoes. The old legs will just have to do for now.

Teena - My pace is not impressive at all. Going up the hill it was 8:30 and coming down was 6:00-6:30. We were going between 7:00 and 7:30 on the flats.

Sounds pretty impressive to me. So, typically, when you are peaking for a marathon what is your pace like on your long runs? (perhaps I really don't want to know as it might make me feel hopeless ... no, tell me!)

From Andy on Sun, Feb 01, 2009 at 07:50:24

Honestly Teena, you and I run similar paces. When I am training for a marathon, my long run pace is usually between 7:30 and 8:00 and my general aerobic runs are between 7:00 and 7:30. I throw in either one tempo run (6:20-6:30) or VO2 max run (6:00) per week.
