It was windy and warmer than I expected so I was overdressed.  Warmed up with 3 easy miles then ran 3 miles at tempo pace.  I had a really hard time hitting the pace I wanted.  I even had the aid of a tail wind and still ran too slow.  First 2 miles were 6:35 and 6:27.  Turned into the wind on the 3rd mile and also had the overpass.  Ran it in 6:48 and knew I was done when I saw the split.  It took a lot more work than it should have.  Finished with 2 more easy miles too cool down.

I don't know how you can run tempo miles at all when you don't have a specific race you are training for...you are a way better man than I am! :)

Looks like some nice tempo miles to me. What pace were you shooting for?

I try to hit 6:30/mile on my tempo runs. I knew from the start that it wasn't going to happen. Maybe it was a self fulfilling prophecy.

don't know about you, but I find it really hard to mentally ramp up for those hard miles - especially when it is windy.
