Utahrunning.com gave me a free entry to the Huntsville 10K. I was excited to run even though I've been sick the last couple of days with a head cold. Before I got sick I was hoping to run a 6:45-6:50 min. pace but since I've been feeling crummy I just went out to run off of feel. I already was coming into this race with low expectations because I'm still out of shape, then after getting sick all expectations went out the window. Anyway, it was a low key race the big races up in Huntsville are the half and full. I did a 3 mile warm up with a couple of strides. They started the race and I was immediately out in front as the 1st female. The 1st mile we run with the 5k runners then we split off and the 10k runners run out along a road towards pineview and there was a turn around point where we head back and turn into some neighborhoods. I enjoyed the scenery of this course, I got to run by pineview and through some beautiful neighborhoods and houses. Then we joined the 5k runners back on their course the last couple of miles for the finish. My splits were pretty consistent today and I'm happy that my last mile was my fastest. After about 4 miles I had a lot of mucus so it was hard to breath after that point I was doing some wheezing. Mile splits 7:04, 6:56, 7:02, 7:03, 7:03, 6:53. My watch had the course a little short 6.06. I think I could've been a couple minutes faster had I not gotten sick. Overall, happy with how it turned out. After my 4.1 mile cool down I waited to watch Cynthia and Sariah finsih the half. Then I went to see if I got anything for first place in the 10k. The results showed me finishing 3rd for the women, I knew that wasn't right. I didn't like having to go correct the timing people but I went and talked to the guy in charge of awards. The results showed two women ahead of me, one finishing the 10k in 32 minutes the other in 39 minutes. I knew they had to have signed up for the 10k and run the 5k instead. The girl that ran 32 minutes wasn't believable the 39 minute runner could've been believable. But I knew no women were around me at all. Luckily, the guy took pictures of all the top finishers in the 10k as we finished. He saw that I was the first female finisher. There was my proof. It really wasn't a big deal I didn't care about the trophy but it's frutrating when people don't run the race they originally sign up for. It screws up the results. It's nice to look at the results and see your name in 1st place.
