This was my first time running the Ogden Half and I loved the scenery. I ran the Ogden Marathon a few years back but didn't enjoy running down Ogden canyon like I did today. I felt the downhills today on the course and remember thinking, "where were these hills when I ran the marathon?!" Today, I wasn't expecting much since I'd only been back to training hard in the last 3 weeks from taking 4 weeks off with a sciatic nerve injury. Riley encouraged me not to wear my watch so I didn't stress about pace and just run off of feel. It's really nice running a race with no pressure or expectation. I took the first 5 miles easy and then decided to work the canyon portion of the race. I looked ahead and just slowly started picking off people. When I got out of the canyon and onto the parkway I started feeling fatigued and by mile 11 I was hurting and hoping to hang on and finish the race. It was a slower finish for me but that'll come back again with more running. I was surprised to see my time at 1:25 when I ran in and am way happy with it! 4 out of the top 5 women places today were  taken by utahrunning.com elite team wahoo! Special shout out to my friend Katie Thompson who won! She's not on the blog but a great runner I'm happy for her today! Here's some pictures taken by Riley today.

Nice run! I love the no-watch, surprise yourself approach. You did excellent. You didn't worry about pace or time you just went out and raced! We can all learn a lot about that kind of racing.

I'm proud of you, this was an awesome effort coming off all that down-time for the injury. I hope I can comeback even half as well as you once my injury is over.

1000 blue-collar runner points for going watchless!

Nice run... especially coming off limited training.

Great job on the race and watch less that's impressive.

Nice race Amy! Awesome time. Way to come back from your injury. I was so jealous of all of you guys on Saturday. Glad it went well for a lot of you.

I just noticed you and Angie are listening to music. I have never raced with headphones. Not sure I could do it. Maybe I should give it a try! Seems like it works for you guys.

From Amy Cook on Mon, May 19, 2014 at 08:28:32 from 73.52.134.194

Lesley, I listen to music when I'm running alone on training runs so I'm use to it and depending on the race I'm doing I'll listen to music. I didn't wear headphones in the Phoenix 10k or the Striders 10 miler. All of the halfs I've run this year I've listened. I enjoy it but Riley thinks he's more focused in the race if he doesn't wear them.

Fantastic watchless race Amy! You are coming back so strong and are such a smart runner. Congratulations!

It was nice to meet you in real life. :)

Great race Amy. It will be fun to see your progression happen over the next few years. I know you and Riley are planning on having 8 more kids but in between. You'll be fine ;) jk, Glad to see you run really well. MIH
