Since I didn't score a JMT permit for the summer, I think I am going here. Who's in?

AM: Lil' bike and PT - My PT told me to not to expect to run for another month. Me and my bike are going to become the bestest of friends.

bummer about the JMT permit...

There are so many people that reserve permits and then never pick them up. I'm sure you could just walk into Yosemite and get one.

Where is that picture taken? Gotta be the Dolomites, right?

Jake and I are scheming a Wind Rivers backpacking adventure one weekend, we could get a crew together - could be fun...I've heard it kinda looks like the Sierras :)

As far as logistics go it seems easier to go to France and hike the Mont Blanc Circuit than hike the JMT. Plus you don't have to carry as much gear and there is wine waiting for you at the end of each day.

I love the Winds! I did a trip to the Cirque of the Towers a few summers ago and it was amazing. The mosquitoes were something out of a nightmare though. You have to check out the town of Lander - it is my favorite place in the whole world! I should probably just move there...

Hmmm I wonder if my SW Rapid Rewards points can get me to Mont Blanc

I am itching to get up to Cirque of the Towers this summer. I have heard that the skeeters are pre-historic size up there, though. Maybe w/ an early snowmelt, they'll die down by late summer / early fall this year.

From Lulu Walls on Fri, Apr 27, 2012 at 13:43:03 from 155.100.212.98

It is not just their size, but their sheer number. Skeeters never bother me, but I had a serious meltdown on the hike. I chucked my trekking poles in the woods and started swearing at bugs. They shouldn't be as bad this year, but I would still bring along one of these for sure! http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research-Deluxe-Spring-Headnet/dp/B002UOTDM0/ref=pd_sim_sg_6

We had some epic skeeter swarm encounters on the JMT. There was this one meadow up in Yosemite where they had all hatched like 10 minutes before we got there. We ended up RUNNING for 1-2 miles w/ full backpacks and waving our hands the whole time. One of the worst experiences of my life at the time - I'm not sure why I look back at it and laugh now :-)

I'm in. I don't care where that trail is.

The Winds are neat. Last summer, my husband and some friends did a one day crossing of the Winds from Dubois, WY to Pinedale, WY. I originally linked to a blog detailing their adventure, but I deleted it because it is not family-safe due to a few instances of profanity.

Hahaha. Tina, it was just fine. I read nearly all of it and it was plenty appropriate. If people can't handle a little vulgarity then they are welcome to stop reading. It was a brilliant article. Thanks for sharing.

Darn I didn't get a chance to read it before you removed it. Thanks for the reminder though since I sometimes mention non family-safe ideas.
