Running Accomplishments:

I was a much better runner in my 20's and 30's.  When I was 52 I had a 28.5 5K and a 58.5 10K, and I would like to surpass those times.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run a 1/2 marathon.  I would actually love to run a full marathon, but am not sure if my body would break down with injuries training for one.  Update fall 2010: still no 1/2 marathon, but I did run all the way up city creek and back home (14 miles)  - absolutely gorgeous!!

Personal:

My name is Adele Kimbrough - I'm 58 and have been running (off and on) since I was 16.  My body is not well designed for speed, and I'm a bit arthritic, but I'm having fun trying to figure out just how fast I can be.  And this blog helps!

2011 Deseret News 10K Finish Line.
Dang - missed my goal by 4 seconds!

By the time I was ready to run today it was 11 & hot & sunny.  I could probably have handled the heat, but since I scorched my chest and arms on a hike over the weekend no way did I want to be in the sun for an hour.  So I did the most dreadful thing I could think of and cleared the junk off my treadmill, dusted it off, and gave it a whirl!  It was nice listening to music for a change, but it wasn't so nice to see how much I have slowed down since last year!!  Anyhow, I mixed some faster paced running with some slower paced running and took a couple short breaks to move my water sprinklers around.  Better go shower and stretch now.

ADELE!!!!! I'm so happy that you're blogging again!!!!

Looks like the running is going well. How's shoulder therapy going?

I'm also glad to see you back. It has been a while. How is the new office? Things are moving ahead. I got a great score on my recent grant and have a faculty interview next week... Moving forward.

Hi Tracy - it's good to be back! I dislocated my shoulder in January; it healed poorly causing lots of problems and then froze up in May. I got a cortisone injection and have been doing pretty intensive pt and it's much much better but I don't know if I'll ever get my full range of motion back. (keeping fingers crossed!). Oh, I really enjoyed the "photo" blog of you, Burt, Carolyn, April & all the cute kids!!!!

Hi Adam, yes, I've managed to increase my running to over 20 miles per week again (much better than the 10 miles per month I averaged the first five months of this year...). Congratulations on your grant - that's great news! Where's the faculty interview?

I'll be heading south to UAB. Have a great weekend.
