Started running this morning in 15 degree weather with a mild wind according to the www.weather.com.  But this is a run I want to forget.  I never really felt that great in the run.  My rhythm and stride were just off.  I've been fighting a cold and sore throat and that  really hindered me.  On top of that my right foot is back to hurting where I was limping after the run.  But that's not all the adventures that happened in this run.

At mile 11 I decided to do one more mile to try and work out the sluggish feeling and finish strong.  I started on the last mile and ran behind an old abandoned Albertson's store.  Suddenly, has I was running I tripped, and did a face plant right on the pavement.   I got up and realized my lip was cut inside and a few cuts on the forehead.  I immediately got up and headed home, but I was dizzy and my vision was seeing sideways all the way home.  I think I'm suffering from a mild concussion, because I still feel dizzy typing this at work.  Anyway, I'll monitor my health and will see a doctor if it gets worse.

I ran 12.31 at an overall 7:19 pace in 1:30 up the Satterfield hill loop.  Today I was trying to keep things slow since my rhythm was off, and I wasn't doing well on the run anyway.

Yikes, that is a brutal run. When you started telling the part about running behind Albertson's I thought for sure you were going to say you got mugged. I hope you feel better.

7:19 is slow? You're being to hard on yourself. That's not slow given all you've had to work through.

Go get checked out. Man, you and running are not mixing well this year.

Jeff - This year is not the year for running. I've really started to see that.

Maybe God is directing me elsewhere.

You have an excellent foot doctor up in IF that only works on athletes. He actually used to work with NFL athletes like Deion Sanders and Warren Sapp, but to get a visit is like a month out. I was referred to him by my Chiropractor.

Robert - I really felt sluggish and tired, even after 8 hours of sleep this whole week.

Jun - I might need to get checked out because I'm really feeling disoriented and dizzy. Definitely the foot will be checked out.

Be sure to eat a well balanced diet. I know runners like to "cut back" during down times in order to avoid weight gain. Problem is that will prolong the healing since the body needs proper nutrition in order to repair itself. I've fallen into this trap myself.

Robert - Thanks that's a good point. I need to also really ICE my foot more. How bad was your foot hurting when you were running on it?

From Robert on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 15:24:08 from 206.195.193.254

Call Mr. Muscle Strain or Tendonitis. I've only had one case of what would be a more compartment type injury in the foot and my Podiatrist determined that to be a turf toe of sorts. I continued to run on that, but nearly all on flat surfaces and iced it as much as possible. I try to be diligent in fixing the issues that pop up and keep my recovery active. A little rest, but mostly icing, massage, taking IBUs, stretching, PT, check running form, improve diet, you name it. I've found ignoring the injury and just resting doesn't work and worst of all I don't learn anything about my body and recovery. However, keep in mind my issues have been muscle and tendon related. I don't recall if you've ruled out a stress fracture. That's a different ball game, but even then you can be active in other ways. I use to have tendon issues with my feet all the time until I bit the bullet and purchased custom orthotics. I've learned a lot of stuff along the way and continue to do so, but I still get my share of injury as well. When injury happens, I just work on it and keep moving. Just my 2 cents. I wish a speedy return to 100% because I can tell how much running means to you.
