Easy miles on the treadmill this morning 5. 3 miles at a 8:00 minute mile pace. My achilles is still crackling. but didn't get that sore today, but I'm sure it will be later because that's what happened yesterday. My plan is to have acupuncture done today, and then just cross-train for the next 5 days. Acupuncture could help to release more blood flow in the tendon. I will also get a massage done.

Also at the gym I did 20 pull-ups, 200 sit-ups and 8 minutes on the bike.

 Lunch

Went to get acupuncture done from a local Chiropactor which is a good friend of the family so I get a good discount.  He said my tissue is so hard with all the crackling going on when you move the tendon that acupuncture would not be good right now, because it would hurt.  The needles would have a hard time penetrating in the tissue.  He didn't think my tendon would be as bad as it is, and was worried about it.  We are going to try to do the acupuncture on Monday.  He would like me to take 3 or 4 weeks off from running.

I think my plan is to cross-train all the way till next Friday or Thursday before the Del-Sol Relay.  At least this will give me a week to heal for the race and maintain fitness with the cross-training.

Get that thing healed up, I am sorry for this injury for you.

As you really still planning on Del Sol? Hope you can, but I don't want you to aggrevate your injury further.

Keep in touch and get well. Talk to you soon.

I'm still planning on running, and don't want to let the team down. I figured if I lay off till next Thursday. I think I should be able to run on in it hard through the relay. Then after the relay I can take some time off if required. I know I probably won't be able to run my best at Del Sol, because of the lack of running, but then again I will have fresh legs.

I'll just keep cross-training every day, to keep some sort of fitness. I hope Ted gets better too.

Kory, Sorry this Achilles thing is still not solved. Do you stretch regularly? You probably do, but if you don't this could have been caused by tightness in the calf muscles putting extra strain on the Achilles. If you had a lot of tightness that might explain why the fall triggered this. I'm not a doctor or an expert, just throwing out ideas. I suppose stretching now when you've got inflamation would have to be something you'd do very, very carefully.

Don't do too much running or anything. I've been 4 weeks since I first hurt it and 3 weeks without running and mine is still tender after standing on it all day at work. :( Whoever invented the Achilles should NOT be thanked because I never did anything to it and all it's done is cause me problems and ruin my training. Best of luck if you do try to run on it.

Benn:

I plan on staying off of it for at least 6 days. I'm going to get a acupuncture Monday as an experiment to see if that will help.

John K: I've never really felt any tightness in my calves. I think the fall was the major cause for my achilles problem. Thanks for your information.

Kory: I've found a lot of help with just simple icing. I wake up and it is less sore. After being on my feet all day last night, I iced for 15 mins and the swelling went away. Still not sure how long I got to take off though before I go running. What does this "relay" thing entail. Is there hill running? Because everything I've read is that hill running is not good for it at all.

I've been icing it and getting in our hot tub. The funny thing is it does hurt after one days rest. In fact today I did a 1 hour and 10 minutes on the Arc trainer and it didn't bother the achilles at all. Very strange. I think if I could give it rest maybe for two weeks it would be completely better.
