Temps this morning were 20 degrees and with the wind blowing it was 12 degrees.  I got attacked by a pitbull this morning that tried biting my ankle, but I managed to kick him away and the dog slipped and fall on the ice on my first escape attempt.  This gave me a few seconds to split out of the sub-division on Sawtooth Rd.  But he quickly caught up to me trying to bite my bum and calf's.  I was scared so I decided to stop (hoping he wouldn't jump at me) and turn around and I gave him a big kick, and it caused the dog to stumble on the road.  I took off again and this time he stopped chasing me, and went back to wherever.  He did nip me but it left no open wound or bite mark I could see.

Ran 10.31 miles at an overall 7:01 pace in 1:12:28.  My work canceled our football Turkey Bowl game outside today against our Networking Department (second annual one), because everyone on both teams had too many people sick and we couldn't field a team because of it.  I'm not sick and I'm kind of glad not to play because of the weather.

 Evening:

Ran a couple strides tonight for the fun of it.

oooh way to stick it to the dog nice one.... really surprised it kept up with you too was it a pitbul on speed huh ?

Pitbulls are banned in our country and if found are destroyed not nice but theyre not a nice breed.... and I love all breeds of dogs and think its the owners or bad breeding that cause problem dogs, but these have been bred for so many years in Ireland/UK/EU illegally for fighting that their is no way that they can ever be a friendly breed :( no matter how good an owner you are.

Ok wow glad I got that out LOL great run really nice 10 miler there and great way to start the week eh :-)

Glad you are ok from the dog attack. Bad dog usually means poor owners...way to put the pitbull in its place with the well placed kicks.

I would agree with american pitbulls but not the ones over here theyre really not nice !

Sam - They are dangerous dogs. I will didn't see him coming until I passed theu house it came from. Your right Pitbulls have been bred to be evil and destructive which is sad because their very intelligent dogs.

Jeff - your right the kick was lucky and I didn't know what else to do. Because he was seriously mad and wanted to hurt me.

Kory, sorry to hear about the dog attack. I have been in those situation, but not as bad as yours and it really sucks. Also, thanks for the support. I do not like the fact of being out of my routine.

Sorry about the dog attack. If you call animal control, they can cite the owner, which hopefully will make them keep him locked up in the future. I still think about when I got attacked a few months ago, too.

Dog attacks; I got chased down the beach once by two dobermans I just stopped running and stood there with my arms down they kept barking at me and circling me, I shouted the owner she was like your ok they wont do anything keep running I was like "NO, you come get them huh"

Another time when I was about 15yrs old, I was training with a group of runners around a local field and I didnt hear or see this dog but it ran up from behind me jumped up at me and knocked me over, luckily it just licked my face but how could that have turned out not good owners should be more responsible they really should.

But glad you survived and your ok :-)

Dogs attacks are very scary and glad you are ok.

From Adam RW on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 14:17:46 from 24.10.175.42

Kory, Sorry I didn't see this until today. Jeff clued me in. What is it with dogs this week and two pitbull incidents to boot. Fortunately the one that chased me didn't even get in a nip but still nerve racking. I don't know what it is about nature and you this week though. A dog attack, a spider bite, not fun. Do they know what kind of spider it was? Do they think the lymph infection is related to the bite? Feel better soon!

From Kory on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 15:03:43 from 24.116.159.75

Adam - I had the Lymph Node before the bite, but good point because it didn't start to swell up until after Tuesday's bite. I forgot to tell the doctor this.

The doctor put me on Doxycycline Hyclate (100mg) twice a day. The infection I noticed has made me a little weak. Like for the Turkey Trot I was really tired afterwards. Well that could be because I ran an additional 12 miles after the race.

Adam are you doing the SLC marathon next year?

From Adam RW on Sat, Nov 28, 2009 at 16:52:40 from 24.10.175.42

April 17th is the day. Any chance of you coming down again? It works the best for me as far as not needing to travel, training on the course, and ease of family cheering me on.

From Kory on Sun, Nov 29, 2009 at 01:37:49 from 24.116.159.75

Adam - I'm not sure what my plans are for the next marathon. I do feel bad that I couldn't keep up with you the last time I ran SLC (Well your just a faster and better runner). But I'll let you know. I really need to pray what God wants me to do next year.

I thought maybe training real hard for just one marathon to try to get 2:30. Or do some adventure runs with Bill Mandler for fun and just have a fun relaxed run year. This adventure run would be a 50 miler that Bill and I have talked about. I really don't know what Goal I want to achieve. Work will really dictate what I decide to do. I've really accomplished more than I ever possibly thought I would achieve. Because in reality I never really was a runner or ever cared about the sport. It was always football and baseball in my head.

From Adam RW on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 12:19:40 from 155.101.152.103

Kory, I'm sure your prayers will lead you in the right direction. Just keep doing what feels right and keeps everything in your life as balanced as possible. If I see you at the line in April great if not I'm sure you will be doing something equally as rewarding.
