Ran the Pocatello marathon course for the last time before next weeks race.  The temperature when I started was in the 40's, and to me that was outstanding.  I even wore gloves and I started at 7am.  I tried to keep my pace slow, but a 6:30 pace on the downhill felt so slow when I really wanted to average 7 minute miles but it didn't happen.

I ran 13.3 miles at an overall 6:30 pace in 1:26.  I felt really good and hopefully I'm ready for next week.  The last two miles (mostly flat) to end the run I picked it up to a 6:16, 6:13, just to get the feel of that area, and what it will feel like when I get it on! next week

Great workout. You will rock next weekend.

I am still about 95% sure I am running the HM, so I will see you at the finish line next Saturday. Looking forward to hearing about another hometown win for you.

What is you target time? I am shooting for 1:15ish for the HM.

From wheakory on Sun, Aug 24, 2008 at 23:41:44

Jeff - I'm going to target 2:40. I think I need to try to be aggressive even though this is a tougher course than Ogden and Salt Lake and Definitely St. George. If I can hit 1:19 the first half that would be good. I think I can average a 6 minute mile pace the first 13 miles. Then I want to see if I can run the last four miles of the around a 5:50 to 5:50 pace.

The rolling hills is where the pace will be hard to tell what consistent pace I can stay at.

Everything is looking good for your marathon. Someday I hope that I can say that 6:30 pace felt slow. Good job!
