No running today, and no running for the rest of the week.  It's time to listen to the body and everyone that has given advice.

Main Goals this week:

1.  Get the foot healed and rested so I can feel like a runner (may take longer than a week).  I'm not a runner if I'm running hurt, and God won't bless me for that.

2.  Do has many sit-ups and push-up to substitute for the running this week.

3. Try to do some aqua-jogging if I can find an aqua belt to use.  I've heard that is as close to keeping your running fitness by doing this type of exercise and aerobic workout.   The ellipitcal or arc trainer really doesn't rest the foot enough to use.  Can you believe me trying to be cautious.

4.  Ice the foot as much as possible and give it the rest it needs.

Jon, Jeff, and Rockness I appreciate your advice.  I really appreciate you guys being HARD on me, because that's what friends do.  I really do regard you as close friends.  It's definitely going to be tough to stay off my feet, but I can't see you guys in races if I'm hurt (well seeing the back of your shorts in a race).  I think I finally realized that.

Glad to hear it. I did aqua-jogging using a small life vest wrapped around me. I had a foot stress fracture and found I had to keep my foot flexed so the water didn't stress my bone- you may have to do likewise to not stress you achilles. You'll be able to feel what works best. If you do aqua-running, I highly suggest tempos- google it. Too hard to do constant fast in the water, easier to do on-off. Get healed, and then get back running. You won't lose much fitness.

Good choice. I wanted to be harder on you about 2 weeks ago, for running longer distances, but I didn't want you to take it the wrong way. Get well soon.

Kory - glad you made it to this point mentally. Prepare yourself to rest for even longer than one week. Months, if necessary. Think about the big picture and the long term. You are still young, and have dozens or even hundreds of races in front of you. Once you get in this mindset, it gets easier, and you will heal faster without trying to forces things too soon.

Kory, you are making the right decision. Paul is right on and is an expert on this topic! Get yourself healthy by focusing on the long term goal.

Jon - Thanks for the information. I'm hoping the pool opens tomorrow. I'd rather not do the ellipitcal. Thanks for keeping stern with me and getting through to my thick skull. I believe your logic broke through.

Jeff - Thanks for your advice and for getting after me as well. I really do want to see you guys in a race in the future.

Paul - Thanks for the encouragement. Question: if I have to do the ellipitcal would two or three minutes of doing fartleks and tempos be a good workout? What do you set the resistance at? I want to make sure I don't overdo anything and be cautious. I'm just not that familiar with the ellipitcal yet.

Robert - Thank you, and its really okay to be hard on me. Because as runners we have to come to a realization where were at in our training. Your advice and encouragement has been a benefit.

If I'm going to get under a 2:30 now is the time to heal, and it may not happen this year but to get healthy is the smart choice.

Kory - tempos and intervals are great on the elliptical. Every machine is different, so resistance varies. It's all trial and error; just find something that feels like marathon pace or threshold pace EFFORT. 3 minutes hard, 1 minute easy is a great workout, so is 2 minutes hard, 30 seconds easy. Etc. Be creative. 20 minute tempos are good. You can start low and work your way up as your fitness allows. But it will be trail and error at first.

Thanks Paul. I feel this is going to be a long and frustrating process. But with Christ we can endure anything.
