Gorgeous morning to run, and for the first day in a while it didn't rain. I was very unmotivated to run this morning. I was still tired and a little sore. I've gotten 8 hours of sleep the last two nights so that's been good, after not sleeping well since Saturday. I've done a lot of yard work the last two days, and last night I got up on a ladder and cleaned our gutters out. The soreness isn't bad, and I'm sure it's still effects from Saturday's marathon no doubt.

Question how much time should you take off after a marathon from running?

I ran 11.23 miles at an overall easy 7:14 pace in 1:21. I ran most of the run in a headwind. I was surprised about the pace because I felt dead the first few miles. Only run for today.

I'll probably take Sunday off or run the dog a couple of miles. This will relax me and get some juice back in the legs for Monday.

Evening

Ran a little tonight  just to shake the legs out.  Just up the block and back.

Ideally, I usually take 3 full days off after a normal marathon, and up to 5 full days off after a downhill marathon. Once you start running, reverse taper, and no real speed work for 2 weeks, perhaps 3 weeks if recovery is slow.

My coach says miles convert to days... It also depends on how hard you race, I dont race often because I cant hold back in a race I have to give it everything and some more especially in marathons and halves.....

So for me its 26 easy days, active recovery days though, upto 40-45 miles per week all very easy runs, swimming and xtrainer too, Id also take the immediate 2 days after the marathon off completley.. but everyone is different Im injury prone so I have to take it easy for a while others peak for shorter races in the 3rd week after the marathon or so I believe.. :-)

Paul, Sam - Thanks! I was going to take 3 off but I felt pretty good. I'll just take it easy.
