Since I ran my last road marathon in March 2016 (my last road race of any distance), I've had bilateral inguinal hernia surgery (May 2016) and ran three 100-Mile ultras (October 2016, July 2016, and October 2017)...but it's good to be back! And now maybe Rob Murphy, Jeff, and other FRB'rs I met at Boston back in 2012 will comment on my race!! In all seriousness, these guys have continued to be supportive, and over the years, they've provided encouragement and tips as well.
On to the race. It's funny actually. Because I wasn't sure what splits I should target, I settled on 6:40/mile because it provided for easy 3- and 6-mile split calculations. So I'm pleased with my 6:39/mile average and relatively consistent pacing.
I stayed near JFK and got up at 2 am, so it was a long day. But the cloudy and misty weather provided cool temps for a good time running.
Thanks to my wife Diana for staying home and watching Evan while I wondered around NYC trying to master the public transportation system for two days. As always, I couldn't do any of this without her love and support.
