The 2017 Arkansas Traveller 100, or "AT100," is one of the most historic 100 milers in North America. With an old school feel, wonderful volunteers and aid stations, and a beautiful and runnable course through the Ouachita National Forrest, it offers a great experience for everyone.
This year's AT100, my fifth consecutive, was challenging psychologically and emotionally. I learned a lot about myself while thinking a lot about my family and priorities. Physically, I felt pretty damn good. In fact, about the only thing that didn't affect me was the 90 degree heat and humidity. I'm a kid from southern Arkansas and thrive in those conditions.
I finished in 16:53:55, the eighth fastest time in the AT100's 27-year life. I was a little over an hour off my 2015 course record, but I'm content with my effort. I ran an honest race and became the first person to finish first overall in four AT100s.
No crew or pacer this year, but lots of loved ones, including my beautiful kids, were there in spirit.
