Went up to the start with Scott, Kory, and Jeff. We didnt have to wait long to start. I felt pretty good at the start we were pretty conservative. Kory was more conservative, he stayed back a bit. I ran a really good pace with Jeff Shadley and we were in 8th and 9th position.  After 10 miles he started pulling me which i didnt mind, my goal was to push myself at all cost to stay with them and see what i could do. I made it to mile 13.1 in 1:17 which is what we were hoping for. I really had to find a porta potti after that and at mile 14 there was one. one of the volunteers were in it and i patiently and loudly waited. I got in and by the time i was out, Kory had passed with a good 200 meter lead. I then wanted to catch him and try running with him to catch Jeff but I think Kory heard my plan and took off! He is an amazing finisher! I found myself alone and tried sticking to pushing myself but with a flu that came on me on Wednesday and Ogden that i felt in my legs still I was doomed. At mile 18 I saw Steve Ashbaker and he had dropped out which put me in 9th place.  Miles 20-23 were horrid and lonely and hard for me. I grinded it out and at mile 25 I was passed and then threw up for a few seconds and then pushed out and tried getting going again. Kelli Stephenson was running back my direction and picked me up and paced me the last mile in which is what i needed. I had to stop a couple of times, one was I thought i was going to hurl and the other I was dizzy! Made it in and I was really out of it for 5 minutes. I got my bearings back and everything was fine. Not my fastest race but a great forced run to add to my resume.

WOW!! I'm stinkin' proud of your race! I can't believe you ran it to begin with, let alone with the FLU? WOW is all I can say! I'm glad Kelli was able to return the pacer favor and keep up going to the end - she is an AMAZING woman! Congrats on the placement overall and AG!! You did a great job, now rest and take care of yourself and get better!!!!

Well that didn't sound like too much fun, but I guess that is what marathons are after all the training, a battle of will. Nice hard run under your belt.

From Holt on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 16:36:00 from 75.169.89.6

What are you talking about Michelle? That's what it is all about... Making Memories - why is it that we can't just make good ones?! Way to hang in there Walter.

From Kelli on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 18:27:44 from 71.219.76.64

YEAH ME!!!! I ran Walter's pace for a mile (no mention that he was puking and dizzy and sick). Oh, wait, this is about you. I forgot!

You did great Walter. you have had a tough week mentally and physically, you ran a marathon 4 weeks ago, and you were a racing fool all spring! All of that considered, look at what you were able to pull off???

Sorry for dumping everything on you when you were out of it. I knew you were not hearing me, but figured if I at least got you your bag you would have stuff should you need it. And sorry I did not get to you faster, darn it. I spent too much time talking to Sarah. Imagine that, me...talking too much????

From Walter on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 18:54:15 from 76.27.15.208

Rachel, gotta kick this cold out!

Allie, thanks for that! did you do any races today?

Michelle, I definitely battled my pshycy today.

Dave, thanks, my goal was to go out hard and try my hardest to stay with Jeff and Kory.

Kelli, Thank you so much for pushing me in that last mile. It was a battle of guts! literally.

From jtshad on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 20:23:54 from 12.187.226.152

It was great running with you through the half. Way to gut it out and run a hard race. As we discussed, that course was different (more difficult) than imagined. You were running great until the pit stop, then that second half was bear.

From Bec on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 20:31:25 from 67.177.35.60

Sounds like a great race! Way to keep it going strong.

From Walter on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 20:48:06 from 76.27.15.208

Jeff, Im pretty sure I could have lasted till 20+ with you at that pace. It sucks when you have to stop and try to make up the time catching. Man were we way off from a 2:35 or what. If we would have been at that pace, we wouldve been right there with Sasha for sure. No more marathons 1 month apart for me!

Bec, it was a great first 16 miles or so and then it got hard! Very hard. Miles 20-23 were so depressing to me! I needed a clown or something to cheer me up. lol

From Ericka on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 21:02:36 from 70.192.194.191

Great job! tough day.

From josse on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 21:10:21 from 70.192.194.191

Opps, that last comment was from me. But Ericka says to say you did awesome!

From Maurine/Tarzan on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 21:41:02 from 97.117.76.29

That is tough running two big races so close together. Way to hang in there. You did awesome.

From Jon on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 22:52:50 from 75.169.139.27

You are a beast- I can't believe all your races, inc. marathons! And you ran so hard you were puking- nuts! Don't worry about this one, and you'll bounce back. What's the next race?

From Kelli on Sat, Jun 13, 2009 at 23:37:58 from 71.219.76.64

Sorry, the clown showed up at 25.

From Kelli on Sun, Jun 14, 2009 at 18:54:09 from 71.219.76.64

Yes, those clown feet can get in the way.

I shoulda worn a costume, what was I thinking????

From RivertonPaul on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 11:17:35 from 67.42.27.114

Too bad the course was slower. You are an animal, nonetheless.

From Teena on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 12:32:23 from 67.177.20.13

I can't believe you raced being that sick Walter James!!! How you pulled it off is hard to fathom. Superhero genes I suppose!

Are you feeling any better yet? Please tell me that you are! :)

From argentinerocket on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 17:20:22 from 74.9.147.114

Great job toughening it up Wall-e! You are so lucky to have Kelli as your deluxe pacer, I am jealous! Congratulations! I hope you didn't lose too much weight with all that puking!

From MrsFIT on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 21:40:19 from 24.2.68.35

Way to tough it out......puking is cool!

From Walter on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 01:32:31 from 76.27.15.208

Kelli, oh i wouldve laughed if you would have done that!

Paul, I really had my hopes up to break a 2:40 but it wasnt in the cards.

Teena, im feeling better kind of. Ive been taking cough medicine now because it seems to be in my lungs more. I am doing the WBR with Kelli this weekend though. I hope I have it out of my system then.

Lucia! Havnt heard from you for a while. lol I didnt lose much weight Lucia and Kelli was a freakin stud to push me in like that. I was sooo out of it! you can ask her. She was talking to me and I had no idea what she said when I was asking questions afterwards. Crazy. Im glad its over. How are you doing?

Christy, I think puking is cool after your done and that feeling goes away. lol

From Kory on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 01:57:21 from 24.116.159.75

Walter your amazing to do what you did with the week you had. I really enjoyed your company. I would have loved to pace with you. I wish you would have caught me and maybe I could have encourage you to hang in there. I was really dead at the start and just couldn't keep up.

Really if you look at your week/sickness/work it was an amazing finish.

Your a great friend Walter.

From Superfly on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 09:41:49 from 208.117.127.110

Everyone needs a good throw up story from a race. Now you have one:)

Good job Walt. I think your right it's hard to run good marathons so close together. 2 or 3 a year is plenty. Keep it up man- You rock!
