I met my pacers this morning and got a quick photo with them and got them off and ready. I got a mile warmup with striders in the mix and did a bit with James Barnes. We got lined up and there was a bit of wind that kicked up. The race started on time and we were off. I immediately took a lead by the first corner and waited a bit to see if anyone would come up on me. I know Toni is a great runner so I was expecting him to go out a bit faster. I was by myself by mile one with a nice tail wind and slight down hill at 5:05! Holy crap, I kept thinking I wished this would just go straight north the whole time. Mile 2 had a turn with cross wind an my first up hill challenge and then straight into the wind. 5:31. Mile 3 was another head wind that was in the subdivision which seemed stronger as it funneled the wind to us. 5:38. Mile 4 was the ******* hill that takes you to a crawl but is only about .25 mile long and then I had my first taste of tail wind again! Yeah. 5:48. Then it was back to a head wind and a bit of a drop to the park trail which I knew would slow me down being ahead by myself with 3.5 miles of headwind. I kept a look out for the ones behind but couldnt see them. I suffered these miles which are so hard with some hill and of course wind. It wasnt as bad as Canyonlands though which I kept telling myself! 5 was 5:50, 6 was 6:08 and then I had a 6:18. Then 8 was a 6:40~ blah! finally got off the trail and into a cross wind and then finally back to a tailwind. mile 9 was 6:08, 10 was 5:59. Yeah! I broke 6 minute pace. Then a roller and another ******* hill that goes straight up! Then a last gully then flat and finish. I hit 1:17:51. I had to grit my teeth and go for it the last .1 when I saw the clock at 1:17:20 something. I got $100.00 and another wagon wheel trophy. 2 more wheels and Ill have enough to make my wagon!

My pacers did freaking awesome as usual and I had a ton of compliments and the race director was amazed! She said it makes a difference so im glad to see that! Made a ton of new friends and saw those stalkers from dailymile for the first time. lol Good day!

Jake, thanks for letting me claim my humble local race. Always great to run with you.

Kelli, you are marvelous! Simply Marvelous!

TM, I should have tried to get in some work on my hips but I was literally running ragged after the race getting pacers in.

Nice work Walter! Congrats on the win! The course sounds pretty tough and rolling. Just think how good and how fast you're going to feel when you finally get a chance to do a race in good weather. You're going to smoke it! Have you decided on Boston yet?

From Walter on Sat, Mar 31, 2012 at 16:08:52 from 97.36.190.113

Dan, thanks a lot. Justin, I decided at mile 11 that I'm not. But as I write this I am going to try and see if I can book a flight. It'll be harder now that I'm 2 weeks away. Will see.

Walter, you are just freaking amazing! Nice work out there today on that brutal course. I don't think people realize how hard those 3 miles into the headwind really are! I banked some time on the early miles to make up for it and was SO glad I did. Congrats on the wagon wheel and making all of US look so good to be with you!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pacing, and if you ever need help, you know where to find me! I'm always available for a race and I'd like to try to take that candybar away from Bill!! :) I was Soooo close!
