It was a brisk windy morning today. I waited up till 5 min. to the start and shed everything down to my shorts and singlet. I was freezing!  I started really fast for about the first .25 mile and no one was around me at all so I slowed my pace down to what I thought was a 6 min. pace but my first mile was 5:23.  I didnt panic because I had a slight decline with a brisk tailwind. 2nd mile was 5:29. 3rd had some hill and firts headwind run 6:02. 4th got down to the trail in the wind 5:43. 5th All head wind. 5:51. 6th Same, headwind with a steep hill. 6:24 7th headwind, 6:03. 8th headwind 6:11 had Scott and his kids cheering me on.  9th Finally had some tail wind. 5:41. 10th had a steep .1 mile hill kill that was straight up but quick.  6:09 Mile 11 was trying to pick up my pace, I had my kids cheer me on at that point. 5:46. 12th mile had a short half mile of headwind and then the downhill started to the finish. 5:40. 13th mile was mostly downhill with a tailwind nice! 5:32  My performance was pretty strong, no one to push me so Im sure my times showed for it although last week I had plenty of guys to push me and couldnt muster some solid speed in that race.  Tyler came in behind me for a 2nd place finish and we won some gifts from Wasatch Running Center and a trophy. It was very windy and cold. Kelli (Tylers wife) gave me a blanket which was so nice of her! I felt bad hogging it up but they made us park our cars in a differant location than the finish so it was impossible to get my warm clothes on. Thaks Kelli! It was a fun run and good to see everyone have some fun out there! Now I have to recovery like a High School athlete for next weeks half marathon.

Thanks Susie, another half in the books.

Julie I was seeing double of you at the end! Wow how amazingly close do you look like your sister! Great job pushing yourself when you dont feel good. You were white as a ghost at the end I was scared you would fall or something. Good run!

Paul, If that dang wind wasnt there to slow us down you wouldve easily busted that time. Keep on truckin youll do great!

From walter on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 19:48:56 from 76.27.13.75

Adam, how are you? I havnt seen you out. Im not running the USATFLDR this year. I tried hard last year and half the races I ran they didnt give me credit for. I called and bugged them but they were never posted. Im boycotting! haha

From Bec on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 20:48:40 from 67.177.35.60

Great race! Brrrrr, it was cold. Are you racing at the Provo half next week? That is where I am heading. I have to break 1:40!!

From walter on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 20:52:49 from 76.27.13.75

Bec, no im heading up north to the wrc striders winter series half marathon. Im going to kill myself but ill have a break after that one. Actually Im going to help pace Danielle in the SLC half marthon the week after that. You can come join us if youd like. Im not entering the race like she is so im just running as a fantom. She is probably shooting for a 1:42 time but she ran a 1:48 in Moab so we'll see. You can use it as a long run and Ill run more after.

From Adam RW on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 21:29:47 from 98.202.223.65

Walter, I've really been MIA since the Provo Half. I had the race of my life and then about 2-3 wks later screwed up my knee during a speed workout. Me and wanting to run sub-5 miles... Anyway I'm getting back to it and hope to race some by the end of the year. This injury is like no other I've had in the past and I'm just resigned to the fact that this is a recovery year. So I will have to live through your races and others who seem to be doing so well already this spring.

You were once more the man of the day. Congrats on the great win. And congrats to Misty who had a great race as well.

From Burt on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 01:28:10 from 98.167.151.26

Way to go, Walter! Not your most exciting report, but when you're that fast, who cares?

From RAD on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 02:06:28 from 67.166.99.8

So, I don't even run the race and I still can't beat you to the finish!! Wow, you're really fast. Congrats on the win, even with those extra miles we threw in just for you, you still won....Amazing :)

From walter on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 02:14:48 from 76.27.13.75

Adam that really sucks. I remember your Provo river half! It was smokin fast! It sucks trying to get back into things. Im about 2-3 minutes slower than last years times. Its frustrating.

Dave i believe the correct ending to that is Chicken Dinner! Im going to Disney Land! Ok not really, I cant even afford Lagoon right now.

JJ, thanks for the compiment is this jose?

Burt, I know it was boring huh? Ill try to soup up my next weeks race.

rachel, it was a good race, you should have run it instead of dressing up for us! haha

From tarzan on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 10:00:57 from 97.117.61.64

Congratulations on the win, Walter! That is an amazing (and it sounds like - cold) race. You will do well this year.

From walter on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 10:05:13 from 76.27.13.75

thank you Tarzan!

From montelepsy on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 10:26:18 from 155.85.58.253

I can't imagine how fast you'd be running if it weren't for all your recent troubles. Surgery, breaking your toe... Dang Walter!

From josse on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:07:10 from 70.193.63.234

Great job on the win and setting the course record that is so fun!

From walter on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:24:03 from 76.27.13.75

Mike, I was thinking the same thing when I ran a 1:12 last year. How the heck did I run that fast? Im 5 minutes away from that time. Then I think how Ryan Hall can run 59 minutes which is 2 miles ahead of me in a half marathon when he finishes. Its all amazing! haha

Josse, I really love local races. They are so low key and more down to earth and fun. Plus everyone knows your name and gives you that boost you need. Good luck to you. I need to get down your way and do some runs with you all! I was talking to Tyler and he mentioned the same thing.

From jtshad on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 14:58:35 from 69.20.133.135

Congrats on the win! You are running really well. Keep it up.

From walter on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 15:44:05 from 76.27.13.75

Jeff, Thanks. What is your goal time for Boston? Are you trying to go all out or have a fun experiance?

From Jon on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 17:12:17 from 75.169.137.163

Walter- wait, let me get this straight... you did the Striders 10 mile, then Canyonlands half, then Riverton half, in 3 consecutive weeks! Man, your legs must be trashed! I guess we'll find out if you have anything left for Striders 1/2!

From cody on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 17:16:14 from 67.161.250.22

What a stud! You could've ran easy and taken a break, but nope, you had to show off! Just kidding walter, nice job. Now rest up, I want to draft off you saturday, so get ready!

From walter on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 18:16:57 from 76.27.13.75

Its my quest for youth Jon! Im then running the striders half with you then Im either doing the SLC half or Boston and then finishing my 2 month hiatis off with the 30k. Whew doggy!

Cody, if I have to run in wind like I did on saturday, I will be definitely be hiding behind you! haha Ill see you saturday you guys.

From Smooth on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 11:42:09 from 71.36.65.79

WOWOWOWALTER!!! CONGRATULATIONS again for the WIN!!! What a SPEED DEMON you are!!! Great performance again on a tough one. Looks like this is just a teaser for your upcoming racing season. You BEAT Sasha already, aren't you? It was fun to see you and your family at the Pizzeria. I didn't get a chance to say hello to Misty. Will you tell her: GREAT JOB from me!!!
