I ran 3 miles with misty at 3 AM I was startled by a snake. I then ran my second leg of 7.8 miles. Just after one mile to go I made a wrong turn and went .6 out and back to make my run an even 9.  I lost us some time but my average pace for this run was 5:38.  It was a gradual downhill that helped me push my pace better.

My last leg I ran 1.5 with Misty and then ran my 3.9 leg at a 5:35 pace in 82 degree weather. It was extremely difficult to run on pavement. It was real Balmy. It was a very fun and exhausting race. The course was changed quite a bit from last year and had alot more trail in it.

Sasha would have been really mad at you for that mistake.

From walter on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:20:57 from 72.211.157.51

I know michelle, I thought about that when I finished.

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:37:22 from 71.36.68.40

CONGRATS! You have some wicked fast pace there. WOW 82 degrees! That would kill me. Sorry about the wrong turn; but looks like you did okay for redemption. Did the change with more trail than pavement make it harder? Again, GREAT JOB! Hope you're getting some sleep/rest.

From RAD on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:48:00 from 67.166.99.8

Good Grief! 5:35 AP in 82 degrees in the desert?!? You must be a machine! Where is your off switch? Where was your 'team' to tell you wrong way? Those Slackers trying to sleep in the middle of the night and not driving along side you :) I had a fun time keeping up with the race through Kelli. I can't imagine doing one of these...they have got to be exhausting!!! Awesome job...with your 'recovery' this week I'm going to catch you, I will, I will, I will - Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and gosh darn it! People like me :)

Crazy!

From walter on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 18:58:23 from 72.211.157.51

Rachel, it wasnt my teams fault. I just was running so fast I didnt see the sign and followed the direction of the main road and lines until I hit a dead end with Ratweiler dogs ready for a nice skinny Walter meal.

Paul, It makes Marathons look easy!

From walter on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 19:00:26 from 72.211.157.51

Smooth, yes it was difficult to get traction and when I hit the road it made all the difference in the world. They put alot more dirt in this year. Bummer!

From RAD on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 19:28:31 from 67.166.99.8

I was just harassing about the team, I realized it wasn't their fault (not yours either...they should know you're running in the dark!), but since I can't harass any of you about your times I have to find something! Did the dogs get a snack? Or did it just help you pick up the pace back to the trail?

From Teena on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 10:17:58 from 67.177.20.13

Wicked fast there Walter James!!

From Lucia on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 11:49:52 from 98.204.55.168

Nice job wall-e! It must've been so fun!

From walter on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 12:31:45 from 72.211.157.51

Rachel, its all in fun. It was my fault. running in pitch darkness at 11-12 miles an hour and trying to find a little blinking light with a blue reflective sign to tell you where to go is frustrating.

Teena-Marie, thanks a lot. Are you back on here now or are you lurking? ;)

Lucia, You know they have one out there now! You should do one. It is very fun! Or we'll get you out here on our team.

From Lucia on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 14:49:47 from 98.204.55.168

Yeah, I may do the one here, it's very boring, super flat all the way on the C&O Canal... Maybe next year I can go up to Utah or Arizona and do one with you guys...

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 20:37:27 from 151.118.168.163

We would take you LUCIA!!!!

And, just to clarify here, it was 100% Walter's fault that he went the wrong way. You are not allowed to shadow your runners because of traffic issues, but it was so early there was no traffic so I, the driver, shadowed walter (clocked him going 12 miles per hour!) We did not leave him until 1 mile out, but he is so fast we had to just so we could get out of the car and cheer him in before he crossed the finish line. How he went the wrong way we will just never understand! LOVE YOU WALTERm but you cost us time!!! You are fired.

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 20:38:58 from 151.118.168.163

Oh, and I have your cell phone charger in my car I think. I will trade you for my red blinking light and front light (I will need those for Wasatch Back) which are hooked onto your reflector vest thing a ma bob.

From Walter on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 22:30:08 from 76.27.13.75

Ok so Im fired? Ill make it up on the next one I promise. Ill bring your light and red flasher on thursday Kelli. Have fun in the sun and keep your kids in line down there. I hear Home Depot a calling! haha

From Walter on Sun, Mar 01, 2009 at 23:47:15 from 76.27.13.75

Lucia, you are in! I have to redeem myself now according to Kelli. It would be really fun!

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 10:20:35 from 67.171.56.164

Congratulations on your race! The snake, the heat, the trails -- lots of challenges. Very inspiring. :)

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 11:33:56 from 151.118.168.163

Walter, is it your cell phone charger?? We ALSO have your roller in our car. I am sorry we have that, but Scott has been enjoying ot and he is very glad you forgot it! I will bring your stuff to ya!!!

We love you Walter, your speed more than made up for your error. Honestly, I am sure it was becasue we shadowed you for so long that you got confused when we finally left ya! You are just so freakin' cool to watch!

From Bec on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 11:47:44 from 205.123.38.69

Oh my heavens, you run wicked fast! Sorry about the wrong turn and such. 82 degrees? I don't think that I can comprehend that when I think 50 degrees is warm here. Good race!

From Burt on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 17:50:59 from 68.76.197.194

Walter, my only regret is I didn't get to see you run. Glad there was no tales of Sherman-Williams either.

From Walter on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 21:48:40 from 76.27.13.75

Snoqualmie it was a very good experience. I am always amazed at how much you can push your body and have fun doing it. Weird huh?

Kelli, enjoy my fast shoes while you can. Oh and will you get a bag of those tangelos for me. We have eaten almost all of them. They are so good! Tell Scott my shoes are magic shoes. He can put them on and say hes ran in my shoes.

Bec, the wrong turn did upset me and when I saw the look on my teams face of disappointment, it was like I lost the Gold for USA. Dang! well better luck next time! We can load up a team next time. Have you done one of them? they are unruly fun. haha

Burt, I was disappointed in not being able to be by you guys more. You were way more quieter than I pictured you to be. haha Fun to see you sun runners though! Good times!

From jj on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 21:30:49 from 216.160.237.43

Walter, this is Jose. It was great to run with you, Misty and the crew this weekend. Your stories were much more entertaining than those episodes of the Office we saw! Maybe I'll see you again at the Riverton Half.

P.S. You may have gotten lost on that leg but Kelli almost kills at least five people at that exchange with the Suburban. It was classic. Ask her about it sometime :-)

From Walter on Tue, Mar 03, 2009 at 23:30:12 from 76.27.13.75

Jose, Kelli keeps telling me we were so lax! I guess we should have been more rowdy. Next time I guess!? You guys all inspired me from your tough break out of your shell attitudes. Good run, Kelli told me you were afraid you wouldnt be able to keep a 8:30 pace and you smashed that! Way to freakin go! I wished I wasnt so tired when watching the Office. I lulled myself to sleep watching that.

From keith on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 15:54:51 from 67.182.244.227

Walter I did the same thing at the Hood to Coast, It was dark and i didnt know the course well, the runner in front of me turned right onto a road and i followed only to be told about a half mile later that we were going the wrong way, Oh well live and learn, We may see you at the WRC Half on April 4th Good luck.

From Walter on Mon, Mar 09, 2009 at 00:48:48 from 76.27.13.75

It takes it out of you huh keith! it sucks. Yes Im doing the WRC half on april 4th. I do like that race. Even though its so dang cold up there still. Maybe itll be different this year.

From Camille on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 10:03:54 from 75.171.17.77

Walter - Don't let Burt's quiet demeanor fool you. He will always get a funny comment in at the right time. :o)
