I mile at 8:50 pace and then I was warmed up sufficiently to get in 3 miles at HM pace (8:15, 7:42, 7:35).  Then I ran another 3 easy--all at about 8:45 pace.

I am mentally ready to race on Saturday.  I am physically ready to race.  My goal is to be between 7:45 and 8 min pace overall.  

I hope the weather cooperates.  Early in the week I heard driving rains and wind for the race, but now the forecast says slight chance of thunderstorms.  It is at least supposed to be warm (probably in the 50s at start time, maybe warming up more). 

I honestly have no idea what to wear.  Any suggestions?

You sound totally ready to hit that goal. Get that competitive bone moving and you'll fight to a great PR. Hopefully the storms stay away.

Anything above low 40s and I'm in shorts and a t-shirt. The crappy part is shivering and waiting for the race to start.

I'm with the shorts and a t-shirt, but wear a long sleeve on top that you can ditch after you warm up. Good luck with the race.

That's what I was thinking. I know sometimes I misjudge and accidentally overdress and I definitely don't want to do that!

Now the forecast is saying it *might* be dry, which of course would be ideal :)

Would you do anything differently if it was going to be raining during the whole race?

I agree with the above--shorts, t-shirt, and long sleeve top you are willing to part with. I don't have any fancy rain gear, so if it is raining then I just wear minimum clothes because they are going to get wet and cold anyway.

I agree - shorts, t-shirt, and a long sleeve shirt you can toss or tie around your waist. (I normally never wear a hat, but I like them when it is raining hard, because I don't like the raindrops hitting my eyes.)

Your training has been great!!! Eat well the next couple days, and have fun reeling in and passing people during the race!

You are going to have a great race!

One alternative to a long sleeved shirt is just sleeves. I wore them in the half-marathon that I ran in March. I think the temperature was in the high 40s. If they get too warm, you can bunch them up around your wrists or tuck them into your shorts or something. Just an idea.

Tracy--I took a suggestion by Allie for my first marathon where it was going to start cold and then warm up and made homemade sleeves by cutting the feet out of my husband's old army socks. After five miles I ditched them in a trash can--so if you have an old pair of socks you don't have to spend any money and you can toss them!

April's suggestion sounds like a good one. I think I spent about $20 on them, but they're also supposed to give UV protection and have a reflective stripe so they might be useful in other situations, though I haven't worn them since the race.

Genius! Thanks for the tip, April. I'm sure I have some old tube socks lying around. Or my husband's old hiking socks. I don't think he's been hiking since the 90s, so I doubt he'll need them again :)

I've done the same thing as April and used my kids' old holey soccer socks. They work like a charm! :)
