Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

5.5 Miles, Hood Route. 6 am start. 50:10. 9:07 pace. Fog.

Have you ever mentally zoned out so deep in a run that you trip over the slightest change in sidewalk elevation? I did. Today. With a mile to go. That makes twice this year. Today's fall was much better than last time. Last time, I left skin on the sidewalk. Today, I threw my body to the grassed ditch between the sidewalk and the road, and then NAILED a rolling round off cartwheelish move. Fortunately, the cars that were driving by didn't stop to ask if I was okay. I would rather they tell the story to their friends with "I saw a guy fall while running today," instead of "I asked him if he was okay, and he became this total jerk." Because out of embarrassment, who knows what I would say? I'M FINE! I'M FINE! I'M FIIIIINNNNEEE!

7.5 miles. hood route. 5:40 am start. 1:05:45. 8:46 pace. Even thicker fog. Not the thickest I've seen, but still, kind of cool. I managed to stay upright throughout the run. My running co-worker yesterday - "Well I've only fallen once." Guess what happened to her this morning? She fell.

So I've been thinking - You know that game you played on a rainy day when you were a kid with your brothers and sisters, where you pretend the floor is "hot lava" and you jump from the couch to the ottoman to the lazy boy and back again? Well some kids really really liked that game, and they never wanted to stop, even when entering adulthood.

So now they do parkour.

12.9 miles. 6:15 am start. Hood route to Legacy trail to Venice avenue and back. 1:52:47. 8:45 pace. Foggy again and it got foggier after sunrise.

Then early Christmas with mother in law. Guess what? I got running stuff. Then to boy #2s basketball game. They lost. This is his first loss in basketball, ever. He is generally a sore loser, but he took this well. Streaks end. It happens.
