Walked 2 miles and ran 3. Kim is really sick and is stuck in bed trying to recover from the Montezuma's Revenge flu and pneumonia she picked up in Mexico. Hopefully I can take care of her as well as she did me when I was on crutches that first while with the foot injury. But of course us guys really stink in the "mothering" dept.
I feel way out of shape (probably because I AM way out of shape). I'm always amazed how quickly the running fitness drops off during injury/rest time. Of course my major chow-down food-fest on the cruise ship all week didn't help. Looks like I'm up 3 or 4 lbs on top of the 3 or 4 I had already gained while injured. But hey they just had too much good stuff to eat on the ship. Ate truckloads of seafood and actually mostly healthy stuff, but lots and lots of it. I also ate a bundle of desserts. But if I had to do it over I'd do the same thing, except for maybe cut back a little on portions at the Johnny Rockets meal - that was our 1 unhealthy indulgence.
Kim was rewarded for her diligence and didn't gain any weight. Actually with the nasty flu the last couple of days she may have lost some weight. Gotta look for those silver linings but I'm pretty sure Kim would be happy to take back a few pounds in trade for not having the pneumonia.
Stats for my run today: AP 9:34, AHR 152. The 152 is pretty sad for that pace, when I'm in shape I can run 7:30-8:00 pace with 152 AHR.
Plan is to hold at max 3 miles/day this week, maybe longer on Saturday if the legs/feet approve. Then very gradually build up over the next weeks/months to 5-10 per day. No speed work and no racing for the rest of this year. Cut back and/or rest at the first sign of any abnormal pains. I want to try getting a good mileage base and holding it for a few months without doing any hard stuff and hopefully that will set me up for a nice racing year next year and give my legs/feet the strength they need to not be so injury prone. |
