Had a very busy day on Saturday so decided to do my very long run today. Started out around 7am, felt pretty good the first 22 or 23 miles. Probably went too fast on some of them. Was sure nice to have Kim join for 13 miles in the middle on the high canal road. Started to struggle after Kim got done. Last few miles were quite a death march. Pretty much walked the last mile which was mostly uphill.

Need to figure out how to properly fuel and pace for 50 miles. I was dead at 30 today and can't see how I could have finished another 20. Ugh I hope I can do this.

Interesting. Knowing the right pace and what to eat/drink to be able to finish the 50 miler without walking the last 20 miles is an issue. I'm thinking that our bodies gives some clues in advance that we are use to ignoring as a marathoner.

Your wife mentioned your doing the Antelope 50 miler. Me too. It will be my first.

My run was very similar to yours today......and I was thinking the same thoughts, "how can I possibly run more". I have NO advice except one foot in front of another. Good luck!

Are you doing anymore long-long runs?

Toby - always nice to hear there are other lunatic runners out there who are up for doing something crazy like a 50-miler! I'm thinking the big thing first-timers like us need to focus on is just finishing the race and going much slower than we are used to and force ourselves to do some walking nearly every mile even early in the race so we don't end up walking the entire last 20 miles in agony.

I have 1 more 25 miler on the schedule for next Saturday (mar 7) and other than that I don't think I have anything longer than 18 miles.

Good luck to you too!
