Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Dark o'clock run.  It took me awhile to find my mojo.  I started a new audiobook and it always takes me awhile to figure out all the characters!

So its been interesting this training cycle.  I've been doing more structured speedwork (track and hills).  But I feel like I'm getting slower on these longer runs.  Last training cycle, I would do MP/HMP miles during the run.  I could run this course in an 8:30's pace and today (and other days) I only squeaked out an 8:59 pace. Just when I think I have running figured out, it reminds me I know nothing!

This is my last run of the week.  Tim and I are heading to Trek for the remainder of the week.  I'm hoping for a small miracle that my running won't suffer.  I just hope it is not crazy hot!!  Tally HO!

i don't think your running will suffer -- it's only a few days and you will be trekking! you'll still be getting lots of exercise.

as for the pace slowing, i think that is completely normal. most of my easy days are run at 8:00 to 8:30 pace, and sometimes i'm lucky to crack 9:00 pace after hard workouts. i find that when the mileage and intensity go up, the easy running slows down and i don't worry about it.

i really like what sasha says about recovery here: http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,1785.0.html

I like the progression of your splits. You are training yourself to get faster at the end. Don't worry about the overall pace; the hills and tempos will do their work.

Amen to what Allie says. Enjoy those recovery days; you'll need them. Have fun on trek!

Allie, Kam and Neasts:

THANK YOU for the input! I just feel like I keep getting slower. So I'm glad to know I'm doing it right! You all had great insights! Thanks again!

Yesiree, no worries!!! You are doing all the right stuff! Your long run is a nice progressive run which is perfect. All these workouts will come together nicely!
