Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

After school walk with 2 neighbor friends.  Funny.... I can find a lot more walking buddies than running buddies in the neighborhood!

During the walk, we let the little girls play for a minute on the playground.  I did a ton of lunges and sit ups.

Ankle is still achy.  I feel like I will never return to normal.

toby: i haven't been doing very well at keeping up on blogs, but i've somewhat caught up with yours over the past couple of days. i'm glad to hear you are on the mend and that you have been given clearance to get back to running. i'm really sorry that you had to miss st. george. i know what a giant bummer that is -- i missed des news last year and i thought my head was going to explode. i won't tell you how many times i cried about it :) also, i'm sure you saw that amber g WON the race this year after having to drop out with a stress fracture last year. running always takes you for a ride (and the low parts are SO HARD to go through), but you've made it through the worst of it and now you are on your way back. it will culminate in something great for you, i'm sure of it.

it looks like you are being very smart about your training plan and bringing back the running very slowly and gradually. that is good. it will pay off. your body will remember how it's done and it won't be long before you are feeling fit and fast again. i know right now it feels like it will take forever, but really, it won't. often times these forced breaks from running are the best things for us and you will likely see some big improvements in 2013. you now have a super bone with all that calcification -- it won't break there again! i'm really cheering for you as you work your way back into shape. health is #1. consistency is #2. and you go from there... :)

Thank you Allie for the kind words! It is hard to explain to my non-running friends what it is like to be sidelined. So thanks for being supportive!

I was doing "mentally" okay until Saturday...then I broke down. The hard thing about coming back it is a long, SLOW journey. I think part of the reason for the fracture was my form. It is really ugly. Such a hard thing to change and I'm not really looking forward to it :(

Ahhhh.....such is life!

Allie said it well, and we all know her head did not explode!

Sorry you are frustrated! I wish I lived closer, I would be a walking buddy now and a running buddy later!

HEY, maybe we need to plan that midnight run again this year! Meet me at McDonalds???
