got in 7.15 today after work - it is a little warmer and not nearly as windy.  My legs feel so heavy and tight.  I don't really know what to do about that.  I know my shoes are old but I can't believe that it would be the cure-all for this.  On the other hand, it is supposed to get up to 60 on Saturday - hurrah!

Don't do anything silly when your legs are feeling that way. Seriously! Take it easy for a bit.

(Is it your entire legs?)

From timp on Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 22:08:50 from 144.188.24.26

Hey Teena - no it is mainly my right leg knee has been a little goofy and the hamstring has been horribly tight for a long time a lot tighter than my left leg. Maybe I need to take up yoga or something-

I hope your leg is feeling better.

Teenas right, take a day or two off and give the equipment time to heal up and come back stronger.

I've been putting off getting new shoes -- so I've been rotating through 5 different pairs of older shoes. I think it mixes things up a bit. Glad it's getting warmer (it his 65 here today ... too bad I did my run this morning when it was only 35 :)

There are some yoga pose that is very good for tight hamstring, e.g. downward dog.

Glad better weather is coming your way!

thanks for support you guys - I'll see what I can figure out.

60 and no wind is just what the doctor ordered.

From timp on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 13:06:58 from 144.188.24.26

Rhett - you are right -

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 13:27:09 from 67.2.102.13

Just a thought: when you stretch your hamstrings rotate your foot. I.e. rotate it outwardly during a hamstring stretch for 30 seconds, then have your foot at its normal position for an additional 30 second hamstring stretch, and then rotate it inwardly for a 30 second stretch. That way you are hitting all three of your hamstrings.

Can you pinpoint where most of the knee pain is?

From timp on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 13:45:41 from 129.188.33.26

thanks Teena - I'll try that when I stretch it. The knee is just under the kneecap in the front. It isn't IT band or anything.

The dumb thing is that I'm not even training hard.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:04:40 from 67.2.98.127

Hey, I have pain on my right knee too, just below the knee cap (patella), actually around the bony protrusion (tibia tuberosity). We think it is patella tendinitis; now a little bursitis is brewing too...fun!

Anyway, does your knee pain come on mid-run and hurts bad post run and kills when you flex and extend the knee?

My hamstring got really tight when I did xtrain, I think it's compensatory, I've been stretching it diligently and w/ decrease in mileage, the hamstring is getting better.

May be R.I.C.E. is in order for that knee! Sending healing thoughts your way! :)

SSF~ But wasn't your knee pain on the opposite leg as your hamstring pain?

Tim~ Is your knee and hamstring pain on the same leg?

From timp on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:13:32 from 144.188.24.26

Hey Smooth, it only hurts for the first half mile and then it goes away,. Then just goofy in the morning. I hope yours feels better soon!

Hey Teena - it is in the same leg. It must be all related.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:18:56 from 67.2.102.13

If when you say "under the knee cap" you really mean "below the knee cap" then it very well could be related. Your semitendinosus hamstring muscle attaches right there (the other two hamstring muscles do not). If that is the muscle that is tight the hamstring stretch with your knee rotated outwards will be the one you will want to concentrate on. (Concentrate on it ... you should feel it most more inwardly towards your groin.) It is best to stretch it after it is warmed up a bit. Perhaps a mile into your run or after a hot shower/heating pad, etc.

Teena! You are so smart! We're so lucky to have our very own PT in house! :)

Yes, my hamstring tightness was on the other leg, so not the same as Tim's!

From timp on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:25:07 from 144.188.24.26

Teena - thanks a lot! I will give it a try today for sure.

From Teena Marie on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:29:45 from 67.2.102.13

SSF~

You always make me feel so good about myself! :)

Tim~

Let me know how it goes. If possible do it at least 3 to 4 times a day. (Not to the point of pain ... just a nice stretch.) :)

From timp on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 14:30:50 from 144.188.24.26

yeah I will let you know for sure.
